Historia
Beth and her gentle, kind husband Frank are happily married, but their relationship relies on the past staying buried. But when Beth’s brother-in-law shoots a dog going after their sheep, Beth doesn’t realize that the gunshot will alter the course of their lives. For the dog belonged to none other than Gabriel Wolfe, the man Beth loved as a teenager—the man who broke her heart years ago. Gabriel has returned to the village with his young son Leo, a boy who reminds Beth very much of her own son, who died in a tragic accident.

Best novel I’ve read in years. Such a beautiful story filled with every emotion. Many twists that all magically resolve in the poetic end.

Historia
Anna Green thought she was marrying Liam “West” Weston for access to subsidized family housing while at UCLA. She also thought she’d signed divorce papers when the graduation caps were tossed, and they both went on their merry ways. Three years later, Anna is a starving artist living paycheck to paycheck while West is a Stanford professor. He may be one of four heirs to the Weston Foods conglomerate, but he has little interest in working for the heartless corporation his family built from the ground up. He is interested, however, in his one-hundred-million-dollar inheritance.

Historia
Michael Crichton, creator of Jurassic Park, ER, Twister, and Westworld, had a passion project he’d been pursuing for years, ahead of his untimely passing in 2008. Knowing how special it was, his wife, Sherri Crichton, held back his notes and the partial manuscript until she found the right author to complete it: James Patterson, the world’s most popular storyteller.

Way too many characters with exotic names. Tended to be confusing. Scott Brick can sometimes be a tad too dramatic in his narration.

Historia
Hollywood Park is a remarkable memoir of a tumultuous life. Mikel Jollett was born into one of the country’s most infamous cults and subjected to a childhood filled with poverty, addiction, and emotional abuse. Yet, ultimately, his is a story of fierce love and family loyalty told in a raw, poetic voice that signals the emergence of a uniquely gifted writer.

A masterful autobiography
Revisado: 06-14-20
I first fell in love with Airborne Toxic Event... learned about this book.... started the audible edition, and I was blown away. I, like many reviewers here, was struck by the depth, honesty and compassion that Mikel Jollet pours into this story of his early life. And....as it turns out, he's not just a gifted writer and musician, he's a great audio book narrator. (I'd happily listen to him narrate another author's work of fiction).
I'm looking forward to more music, books, and narrations.

The number one New York Times best seller by Pulitzer Prize-winning historian David McCullough rediscovers an important chapter in the American story that's "as resonant today as ever" (The Wall Street Journal) - the settling of the Northwest Territory by courageous pioneers who overcame incredible hardships to build a community based on ideals that would define our country.

Tedious
Revisado: 08-17-19
I typically love David McCullough, but, certainly in audio format, this book had way too many place and people names to keep track of. The narration had a slow, hypnotic, droning tone.... I made it to the 1/3 point and realized I had scarcely paid attention.

Who would think that 3,000 year old Greek mythology could be a modern day page turning adventure novel?!? Madeline Miller has made that happen.
She is so talented. I'm looking forward to her next work, whatever that happens to be.

Historia
American history was driven by clashes between those interested in preserving social order and those more interested in pursuing their own desires---the "respectable" versus the "degenerate", the moral versus the immoral. The more that "bad" people existed, resisted, and won, the greater was our common good. In A Renegade History of the United States, Russell introduces us to the origins of our nation's identity as we have never known them before.

Poor history
Revisado: 12-03-14
The author's perspective on history is based on a simple formula: what's most shocking? Not, what fits the flow of history in an intelligent way. He fails to connect shocking moments in history to the broader claims he makes.

Boring
Revisado: 08-10-14
Mostly a collection of whines and moans about budgetary constraints for the secret service. The easiest presidents to work for are Reagan and Bush, while the most difficult are Clinton and Obama. So, it would seem one of the conclusions meant for the reader to walk away with is that elected Democrats are anti-military/secret service; while elected Republicans are typically just the opposite.
The topic of this book is a fascinating one, and one that deserves an objective take. "First Family Detail" is boring, when it's not, mean spirited.

Author's last book was full of interesting stories and insights into the life of an Eighties heartthrob. "Love Life" is filled with cliched stories and comes across as preachy.
