Historia
Is the archeologist who discovers a lost tomb a sort of hero - or a villain? If someone steals a relic from a museum and returns it to the ruin it came from, is she a thief? Craig Childs's riveting new book is a lyrical ghost story - an intense, impassioned investigation into the nature of the past and the things we leave behind. We visit lonesome desert canyons and fancy Fifth Avenue art galleries, journey throughout the Americas, Asia, the past and the present. The result is a brilliant book about man and nature, remnants and memory, a dashing tale of crime and detection.

Little more than 200 years ago, only the most reckless or eccentric Europeans had dared traverse the unmapped territory of the modern-day Middle East. Its history and peoples were the subject of much myth and speculation: and no region aroused greater interest than Egypt.

Great listen
Revisado: 11-01-21
I love books of Napoleon's amazing travels. This book has great detail on Napoleon's time in Egypt and what happened with his scientists and infantry men still there once he went back to France. Glad I found this book! Great narration too so that is always a plus. A recommended read for sure, AA++!! :)

Historia
In the 1950s, a young Indianapolis minister named Jim Jones preached a curious blend of the gospel and Marxism. His congregation was racially mixed, and he was a leader in the early civil rights movement. Eventually, Jones moved his church, Peoples Temple, to northern California, where he got involved in electoral politics and became a prominent Bay Area leader. But underneath the surface lurked a terrible darkness.

Insight into Jonestown
Revisado: 10-31-19
This book goes into the roots of the Jones family and the characteristics of the people who held a part in events that occurred in Guyana. My favorite part of the book is the description of the early beginnings of what would become known as The Peoples Temple and the places they occupied before San Francisco. I also liked the insight about how the church recruited people and what type of people were being recruited. The book falls short of a lot of description into the final outcome in Jonestown and I am fine with that, I think the titled perfectly fits this part (The Road TO Jonestown). I also enjoyed George Newbern as narrator. Overall a great book. :)

Great read before Fingerprints of the Gods.

Loved it, I've read Fingerprints of the Gods and Magicians of the Gods quite a few times. I listened to this audio book after I read them. Better grasp on the scale of whats being explored here.
