Historia
Alice Pendelbury believes everything in her life is pretty much in order - from her good friends to her burgeoning career. But even Alice has to admit it’s been an odd week. Not only has her belligerent neighbor, Mr. Daldry, suddenly become a surprisingly agreeable confidant, but he’s encouraging her to take seriously the fortune-teller who told her that only by traveling to Turkey can Alice meet the most important person in her life. What’s more, the peculiarly insistent Mr. Daldry has even agreed to finance Alice’s trip - one that against all reason seems to be predestined.

Good story that is marred by poor narrator

Such a wonderfully strange story
Revisado: 06-29-21
I loved this book because it’s so different from other stories. It’s a book that keeps your interest moment after moment. It’s beautifully written and I could listen to the narrators voice all day and never get tired of hearing it. In fact, it’s perfect how the beautiful writing and the beautiful voice of the narrator fits together!

Have read and listened four times
Revisado: 04-27-21
This is my all time favorite book! Both Kate Morton and Caroline Lee are my favorite author and narrator. Between reading and listening I am up to four times now. And, will do so again and again!

A Beautifully told story
Revisado: 04-15-21
This story is about a young Quaker girl that has a baby out of wedlock in the mid 1800s in Pennsylvania. Lilli was in love with the baby’s father and planned to marry him, but due to unfortunate circumstances she gave birth without being married. She was cast out of her home and ends up scrambling to survive and keep her baby alive. It is heartbreaking how difficult the struggles that Lilli and women like her have had to endure. It may seem unusual to describe such a story as beautiful, but it was truly told in a beautiful way. I absolutely loved it!

Seduced by her employer’s son, Evangeline, a naïve young governess in early 19th-century London, is discharged when her pregnancy is discovered and sent to the notorious Newgate Prison. After months in the fetid, overcrowded jail, she learns she is sentenced to "the land beyond the seas", Van Diemen’s Land, a penal colony in Australia. Though uncertain of what awaits, Evangeline knows one thing: The child she carries will be born on the months-long voyage to this distant land.

Loved Every Minute Of It!
Revisado: 01-11-21
I chose this book mainly because Caroline Lee was the narrator. And, as usual she was wonderful. This was the first book by Christina Baker Kline that I have read and the story was so good that I am now looking for my second one by her!
