Kept You Guessing
Revisado: 12-29-24
The only part I disliked was the beginning. It took awhile to develop the plot. After the plot was developed, I had a hard time putting it down.

Historia
The hardscrabble folks of Troublesome Creek have to scrap for everything - everything except books, that is. Thanks to Roosevelt's Kentucky Pack Horse Library Project, Troublesome's got its very own traveling librarian, Cussy Mary Carter. Cussy's not only a book woman, however, she's also the last of her kind, her skin a shade of blue unlike most anyone else. Not everyone is keen on Cussy's family or the Library Project, and a Blue is often blamed for any whiff of trouble.

I read this book on another platform.
I enjoyed it just as much or more the second time.
Why are we so racist? Our color, heritage, riches, likes and loves separate us. It permeates all of history and continues. When will it stop? With ourselves.

In the spring of 2020, Lara’s three daughters return to the family's orchard in Northern Michigan. While picking cherries, they beg their mother to tell them the story of Peter Duke, a famous actor with whom she shared both a stage and a romance years before at a theater company called Tom Lake. As Lara recalls the past, her daughters examine their own lives and relationship with their mother, and are forced to reconsider the world and everything they thought they knew.

Historia
Sam is seven years old and living in Beverly, Massachusetts. She adores her father, though he isn’t around much. Her mother struggles to make ends meet, and never fails to remind Sam that if she studies hard and acts responsibly, adulthood will be easier—more secure and comfortable. But comfort and security are of little interest to Sam. She doesn’t fit in at school, where the other girls have the right shade of blue jeans and don’t question the rules. She doesn’t care about jeans or rules. All she wants to climb.

I Have Never Wrote a review for a BOOK
Revisado: 02-13-23
Goodman writes about child growing up in a dysfunctional family and how success is achieved with determination. Sam’s life is a reflection of her parents, but she surpasses loss with her desire to succeed. Most of the story, is parallel with her drive to climb rocks. What a metaphor! Even the narrator, reflects her determination in the cadence and rhythm of her speech. I wasn’t addicted at first, but everyday I need to listen to see how Sam was doing. Teachers should read this one.
