Historia
If it’s navel-gazing you’re after, you’ve come to the wrong place; ditto treacly self-examination. Rather, his observations turn outward: a fight between two men on a bus, a fight between two men on the street, pedestrians being whacked over the head or gathering to watch as a man considers leaping to his death. There’s a dirty joke shared at a book signing, then a dirtier one told at a dinner party - lots of jokes here. Plenty of laughs.

Lovely narration
Revisado: 07-03-22
If you’re a fan of his books, and want little vignettes behind Sedaris’s life - this is a fun listen. I loved the narration split between the two performers.

Historia
Brilliantly funny, frank, and shattering, this is the bittersweet memoir by Peter McGough of his life with artist David McDermott. Set in New York’s Lower East Side of the 1980s and mid-1990s, it is also a devastatingly candid look at the extreme naiveté and dysfunction that would destroy both their lives.

Best narration!
Revisado: 10-10-19
At first I didn’t know if I was going to like Peter McGough’s narration style – – but it quickly grew on me. I loved the way he affected the voices of all the kooky characters in the book. I had studied McDermott and in graduate school, but I never knew anything about their personal lives and all of the different political and cultural milestones they lived through. For me, the story was over way too soon and I hope he writes more in the future.

Historia
Why we think it’s a great listen: Some books are meant to be read; others are meant to be heard – Water for Elephants falls into the second group, and is one of the best examples we have of how a powerful performance enhances a great story. Nonagenarian Jacob Jankowski reflects back on his wild and wondrous days with a circus. It's the Depression Era and Jacob, finding himself parentless and penniless, joins the Benzini Brothers Most Spectacular Show on Earth.

excellent character voices bring this story tolife
Revisado: 03-03-17
Which character – as performed by David LeDoux and John Randolph Jones – was your favorite?
Both narrators were amazing. The one voicing young Jacob used different voices for all of the characters and helped bring to life a variety of characters
