A Worthy Replacement for Katherine Kellgren

I was so so sad when I heard of Katherine Kellgren's death and I wondered how I would go on listening to these fabulous books. When Four Funerals and Maybe a Wedding was released, I bought it right away, and I wasn't sure I'd be able to listen to a new narrator. I thought maybe I'd switch to reading the series. I wanted to give it a shot, though, and thank goodness I did.

Of course she's different than Katherine Kellgren - but she's fabulous. I am so pleased with her performance and I will definitely continue to listen to the series. She had very large shoes to fill, but Jasmine Blackborow did a wonderful job!

I really wanted to like this book. The story was interesting, even the characters, but he writes the women so poorly. I finally had to give up - the dialogue from Paul Reeve's girlfriend put me over the edge. Bummer!

Great Writing + Wonderful Narration = Amazing!

I’m a sucker for beautiful writing and this book has beautiful writing in spades! Couple that with a fantastic narrator and you have audio book gold! Compendium had me hooked from the beginning. The characters are relatable and engaging, the world is intriguing and beautiful (I long for it to become a movie so I can see it in full color), and the story is unique and compelling! I so enjoyed getting to know the planet of Lumin and the people who are fighting for its future. I can't wait to find out what Mia and the Order do next! If you're looking for your next great listen - this is it!

Most Beautifully Read Book

Who was your favorite character and why?

Mary - We loved her transformation.

What does Helena Bonham Carter bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Helena Bonham Carter read this book so beautifully. We were as much entranced by the story as we were her narration. It was just lovely to listen to and we were so sad when it was over.

Any additional comments?

My girls (9 & 10) loved this book more than any audio book we've listened to thus far. A great story and a fabulous performance. They asked me to please find more stories read by the same narrator! Not sure what I can find to top this one. I'd highly recommend this one.

Would you listen to The Wonderful Wizard of Oz again? Why?

It's a fabulous and engaging story.

What did you like best about this story?

The performance was phenomenal! This is the first audiobook I've listened to with my children and I wasn't sure if they'd enjoy listening to books as much as I do. They are enthralled with this book and the performance and can't wait to get back in the car to listen.

What does Anne Hathaway bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

She does such a good job with the different characters as well as the narration. Her performance is no doubt the reason my little girls love this book so much.

For anyone thinking of trying an audiobook with their children, this is the perfect book with which to try. We may even listen a second time!
