Loved the author’s reading personality

Listening to this book is like sitting down with a trusted friend who is sharing her experience, strength, and hope- with some serious stories, some laughs, and no BS. A great business book and also a great life book- especially since the two seem to be intertwined. An easy read/ listen with a problem/ solution orientation, but again, no BS. We are left to make our own decisions and she gives excellent resources. I highly recommend this book to everyone because I’m not sure any of us, or our families, or co-workers, hasn’t been touched in someway by struggles with mental health, alcohol misuse, or various addictions. There are useful tools for success in this book- and also, a kind, entertaining, and wise author with a great voice. I Highly recommend!

Life-affirming, entertaining, emotional and “real”

I highly recommend this book to anyone, though I will say, as an adoptee (I met my biological mother when I was 26), raised in Iowa by an Irish Catholic family (who watched Ryan’s Hope) this book seems to resonate on many levels with me and I especially recommend it to women. This memoir has an almost healing quality to it. Kate Mulgrew “tells it like it is” as an actor, and gives us insight into her work and career, from stories of Stella Adler in NYC to being a working mom in L.A., she is the real deal. The author shares honest, raw, and often heartbreaking stories of love and devastating loss in a poetic style that allows us to feel the emotion. She then seems to bring in an element of hope, so we are left positive and interested in continuing on this journey of life with her. Hearing the author read the book herself was an added treat. I highly recommend this book and look forward to more from this author.

Life changing- for seekers and those struggling

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I recommend this book for many reasons to many people - The author tells REAL stories that we can relate to regarding life's struggles. Whether you are a single parent, a person who has suffered the passing of a loved one, career strife, or a person with a challenging childhood and family story, Athena shares the solutions she found as well as personal anctedotes and a beautiful sense of humor. Her stories help us to smile as we confront our own demons. The book discusses spirituality, and even touches on levels of faith and curiosity that help the reader to consider how thin the veil between our world and other worlds, even other species -might be.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Athena tells her own story - even the really hard parts. The music and audio quality are incredibly good. The audio gives one the feeling of a wonderful feature film where the visuals are filled in by the listener.

Which scene was your favorite?

I enjoy the way Athena and the characters play out the hypnosis sessions. I also love the way Athena discusses her mother and the journey regarding the relationship.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

This is a great book. I don't know if going through it in one sitting is a reality for most of us. There are 60 chapters and the listen is worth EVERY MINUTE -

Any additional comments?

This was a brave undertaking. This woman honestly shared the story of a childhood with parental alcoholism, of abuse, of struggle and common feelings of anger, resentment and fear. By sharing her story, Athena Demetrious gives the reader a sense that true healing and peace is possible in this lifetime.
