Good little mystery; odd choice in narration

The story is good; the author is always consistent from book to book. I have an issue with the choice of narrator. While her narration is good and not terribly annoying, her accent of the main character is Midwest and not southern in the least. Southern accents are hard to get right, so I understand choosing good narration over a bad accent. However, somewhere between this book and the previous book, the narrator started t-glotting the name Martin. T-glotting like a youtuber is not a Southern convention. It is annoying. I should probably turn it into a drinking game to make it more tolerable.

I have NOT finished the book. I tried. The narration is weird. She's usually a very good narrator... It may be the direction. I don't know. Reading in a choppy pan-slavic accent is disturbing and adds nothing to the flavor of the story.

Not just pandemic good but really compelling. The characters were likeable without being Mary Sues, the plot was interesting, the writing entertaining...I see the characters clearly and I would most heartily and greedily read more from this author.

The Dutchess is just too much. She reads like she's getting a pedicure. I've never heard the word "said" pronounced the way she does - I'm from the South and even I know that's way too many vowels.
