Historia
This audiobook is a long-awaited major statement by a pre-eminent analytic philosopher, Alvin Plantinga, on one of our biggest debates - the compatibility of science and religion. The last twenty years has seen a cottage industry of books on this divide, but with little consensus emerging. Plantinga, as a top philosopher but also a proponent of the rationality of religious belief, has a unique contribution to make. His theme in this short book is that the conflict between science and theistic religion is actually superficial, and that at a deeper level they are in concord.

Took me a while to get through, but worth it.

Fascinating listen. Pretty dense and I had to pause quite a few times to digest. However, it chases the logic paths to their endpoints. I ended up ordering the hard copy as well. I actually loved the performer, added just a hint of snarkiness to the rebuttals that I actually enjoyed.

Interesting and enjoyable
Revisado: 05-23-19
I'm sure I'm biased, but I could probably listen to Alan Alda read the phone book for 20 hours and enjoy it. I'm pretty sure I loved the book, too. Ties in nicely with brain plasticity work and mind vs. brain concepts, if you enjoy that.

Historia
You are reading the word now right now. But what does that mean? What makes the ephemeral moment "now" so special? Its enigmatic character has bedeviled philosophers, priests, and modern-day physicists from Augustine to Einstein and beyond. Einstein showed that the flow of time is affected by both velocity and gravity, yet he despaired at his failure to explain the meaning of now. Equally puzzling: Why does time flow? Some physicists have given up trying to understand and call the flow of time an illusion.

Loved it
Revisado: 07-18-17
Unlike some of the reviews, I absolutely loved the end, and his take on the direction of time. I found the book to be very mind-opening. Concepts I had not considered. I bet at least some of the critics had their feelings hurt with criticism of Richard Dawkins' logic, thus they dissed the book. But the author also dismisses intelligent design as pseudoscience and tries to stay above the fray, and stick to figuring out the puzzle, with astounding conclusions. One of my favorite books.

The narrator is amazing, made the subject that much more riveting. I have read a fair amount about Darwin, but never heard this angle. I had trouble pushing the pause button to get my stuff done! Well done.

In Idiot Brain, Dr. Dean Burnett celebrates blind spots, blackouts, insomnia, and all the other downright laughable things our minds do to us while also exposing the many mistakes we've made in our quest to understand how our brains actually work. This is the best kind of popular science - lucid, funny, and whip smart - from a debut author who will be tickling funny bones and firing neurons for a long time to come.

Expected cute or informative. As a neuosurgeon and with a PhD in neuroanatomy, just wanted to be entertained, or learn something novel. However, it's as if he got his information from People magazine. His understanding of pathways is often just plain wrong, and his clinical examples sometimes are unrelated to the pathway he's describing. Could only get through 2 chapters because it was making me upset. Don't let this be your only source for neural pathways.

Enlightening, inspiring, and a pleasant listen.
Revisado: 06-12-16
Absolutely loved it. Will likely listen again. Author/narrator softly challenges your thinking with both logic and spirituality that sounds like how I would imagine CS Lewis would be after a beer. Although uses quotes and documentation, adds much of his own thoughts in a cogent, tight discussion that is all the while very conversational. Not preachy, and feels like a pleasant conversation with a well trained experienced man of God who cares about the listener.
