Beginning of the end of a dynasty
Political intrigue
Stabbing and back stabbing

A soap opera on steroids
And of course more 4 letter words, than other words.
Not to mention excessive sex, none of which appears to be for love, just for sex

While all Cussler books are enjoyable entertainment, the work smidgen's of historical intrigue. You have to wonder how many times Sam & Remi Fargo are going to stupidly step into trouble again. Or, just how naive they really are, when they continue to make stupid next moves.

Regardless, the stories are fun, and provide great breaks from reality, especially during covid.

Scott Brick once again delivers a gem

Non stop fun, in a classic Cussler form
Juan and the entire Oregon Files team are at it again, and this time with a couple potential new members.
Not so much on the water this time, the team must go after a lunatic ready to take over the world - but who is the lunatic?
And what role will the mysterious accessory play in future stories
Read /listen to The Jungle to find out

Don't get discouraged that Scott brick is not your narrator. Jason Culp does an acceptable job, the story is good - it could be so much better.

I am so glad I saw the movie first. It was very good, and I have long wanted to read the book.
Audible finally gave me a reason, and I can only say - it was well worth it.

Scott Brick is the best reader I have ever heard - IMHO.

The detail and background of the book, added so much value to the the story I was first acquainted with on the silver screen.

Yes, the stories are different, but I see why the movie made the changes it did. Sean Connery, Alec Baldwin, Scott Glenn, Tim Curry, and Courtney Vance were Marco Ramius, Jack Ryan, Bart Mancuso, Dr Petrov, and Jonesie - perfectly from the book.

I think I will need to watch the movie again, as I am sure it will make much more sense - then re-listen to the book.

Great experience

Loved the trip through space (the black ocean) that I was taken through.
Will have to admit, about the 5th book I got a bit bored, but then it picked right back up, and I was sucked back in

Mikael Nara more really held my interest. His inflections and voices helped me to navigate the characters, and enjoy the story.

I really loved the humor.

I will miss the game of the mobius

Scott Brick at his usual best
Unfortunately the story line was not the normal cussler.
Yes, some great moments
Yes, the usual laughs
But the heroin - talk about a naive women unable to read the writing on the wall. And dirk pitt seems to fall for her anyway - despite losing his love just 1 month earlier.

Most cussler stories start with some historical reference, or even an Archeological find - not this one. In flood tide we get right into the evil provacateur and his evil ways, only to have the major archeological discovery come, and get wrapped up in a chapter or two near the end.

Still love cussler, and if this is the worst it gets, then I'm grateful

Great time following Mahoney, who just happens to be an orphan originally from Mulderig, around helping Mrs Cauley, the old actress and playwright, solve the murder of his mother.

When they show the metaphorical gun in act 2, it really isn't the murder weapon, nor murderer.
Full of iconic Irish (both alive and dead). You will laugh, and she a tear or two.

You will enjoy
A fun Irish romp in the mythical village of Mulderig

I own nearly the entire Cussler library, and perhaps i am just spoiled by Scott Brick?
I was anxious to read my first Oregon Files title because the premise has so much potential.
Once started, I wondered if it was the writing that was really bad, but the book sucked me in like all Cussler titles. Then, after listening to the narration, i realized what it was.
J Charles attempts to provide life to each character, by utilizing a different accent. Unfortunately, he does not succeed. The over the top Texas and British accents are bad enough, but then he switches to a mechanized presentation, every time a character speaks over the radio, or into a microphone. As soon as I realized this was going on, I knew it was not the writing.

The Oregon files introduce a lot more characters into the story than most Cussler books, and therefore a range of voices is necessary for clarity purposes. But J Charles does not succeed at this task. The book comes off as comic, and amateurish rather than as an action adventure novel.

Juan Cabrillo is the Chairman of a corporation that can be hired for good deeds, and where they can make a profit. The organization appears to be headquartered in a "rust-bucket" ship christened Oregon. While the ship is externally a rust bucket, underneath the rust-colored facade, is a high tech ready for action command vehicle, capable of dealing with any situation, including the Chinese Government.

In this adventure, their task is to steal a Golden Budha, that will help enable the Dali Lama to retake control of Tibet. But to do so forces the team to deal with wealthy criminals, and yes the military of the Chinese Government.

You may want to read this adventure, rather than listen to it. It appears that J Charles also narrates the 2nd novel in this series but then Scott Brick takes over (if you can wait that long).
