Enthralling start, slow finish
Revisado: 01-03-25
In short, this book was about an hour and 20 minutes too long. It also seemed to have lacked a cohesive thesis or narrative at the end of the story.
This incredible character central to the story isn’t given enough airtime and continually one is left to ask “why”?

Historia
Michael Pollan, known for his best-selling nonfiction audio, including The Omnivores Dilemma and How to Change Your Mind, conceived and wrote Caffeine: How Caffeine Created the Modern World as an Audible Original. In this controversial and exciting listen, Pollan explores caffeine’s power as the most-used drug in the world - and the only one we give to children (in soda pop) as a treat.

Misleading and Meandering
Revisado: 12-20-23
The subheading of this book outruns the content.
Though some interesting nuggets of caffeine history are present, no consistent narrative or call to action exists. The subheading should read something like “my personal musings on caffeine”.

Historia
There are still countless tales of the Scythedom to tell. Centuries passed between the Thunderhead cradling humanity and Scythe Goddard trying to turn it upside down. For years humans lived in a world without hunger, disease, or death with Scythes as the living instruments of population control. Neal Shusterman—along with collaborators David Yoon, Jarrod Shusterman, Sofía Lapuente, Michael H. Payne, Michelle Knowlden, and Joelle Shusterman—returns to the world throughout the timeline of the Arc of a Scythe series.

Shusterman Strikes Again!
Revisado: 11-06-23
Nearly all of the scythe-based stories strike gold with creativity and balance. Note there are a few small duds, namely the “Perchance to Glean” and “The Persistence of Memory” stories, which both fail to meet the mark via poor narration and a lack of dynamic characters. That said, “The Mortal Canvas”, “Formiddable”, and “A Martian Minute” bring powerful backstories to the Scythe story arch. Outside of inconsistencies in narration, this collection is a fine addition to the quartet.

Historia
Half a century after the Doomsday Battle, the uneasy balance of Dark Forest Deterrence keeps the Trisolaran invaders at bay. Earth enjoys unprecedented prosperity due to the infusion of Trisolaran knowledge. With human science advancing daily and the Trisolarans adopting Earth culture, it seems that the two civilizations will soon be able to coexist peacefully as equals, without the terrible threat of mutually assured annihilation. But the peace has also made humanity complacent.

Revisado: 12-20-22
Similar to the previous two books in this series, Liu demonstrates aptitude for world building. That said, much of the hard science fiction that brought readers in is left behind in this narrative.

Historia
Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

What an incredible experience!
Revisado: 05-11-22
Story: One of the best sci-do epics that I’ve ever encountered. This truly gives “The Martian” a run for it’s money; which is trying saying something, as I’d consider it one of the keynote pieces of literature for the millennial generation. Weir’s ability to balance technicality with human emotion is nothing short of an achievement.
Performance: Ray Porter. Not much else is needed. This gentleman is truly one of my favorite voices is audio today.

Historia
As the ash and chaos from Mount Rainier’s eruption swirled and finally settled, the story of the Greenloop massacre has passed unnoticed, unexamined...until now. The journals of resident Kate Holland, recovered from the town’s bloody wreckage, capture a tale too harrowing - and too earth-shattering in its implications - to be forgotten. In this audiobook, Max Brooks brings Kate’s extraordinary account to light for the first time, faithfully reproducing her words alongside his own extensive investigations into the massacre and the legendary beasts behind it.

Tornadoes, cyclones, tsunamis… Weather can be deadly – especially when it strikes without warning. Millions of Americans could soon find themselves at the mercy of violent weather if the public data behind lifesaving storm alerts gets privatized for personal gain. In his first Audible Original feature, New York Times best-selling author and journalist Michael Lewis delivers hard-hitting research on not-so-random weather data – and how Washington plans to release it.

Historia
There are some odd things about Nate’s new apartment. Of course, he has other things on his mind. He hates his job. He has no money in the bank. No girlfriend. No plans for the future. So while his new home isn’t perfect, it’s livable. The rent is low, the property managers are friendly, and the odd little mysteries don’t nag at him too much. At least, not until he meets Mandy, his neighbor across the hall, and notices something unusual about her apartment. And Xela’s apartment. And Tim’s. And Veek’s.

One of my favorite Audible journeys.
Revisado: 07-24-18
Where to start with this one? A list may suffice: poignant, political, soul crushing, spiritual, thrilling, smart, funny, bittersweet.. so much more. Winslow's ability to transport the reader through culture, time and location to the seedy underworld of the Narco subculture, the CIA, the DEA and the other "war on drugs" counterparts is simply masterful. This combined with transformative narration from Ray Porter provides the listener with an unrivaled audio experience. This is a MUST LISTEN!

Profound
Revisado: 02-09-18
this was simply the happiest, sadist, funniest and by far most profound book I've ever read. the ability that this story has to touch so many parts of the Soul is somewhat unexplainable. What I can say, is that whatever the story may bring you, it will be worth the pain and experience of this amazing character's life.
