Historia
My name is Kazimir Wolfe. People call me "Kaz", except they don’t. I never use my real name; it’s too dangerous, for me and for anyone I meet. I’m on the run from the law, who think I killed my aunt, and from whoever did kill her, because they want to finish the job. So, I move around a lot, working construction or whatever job I can find. It’s a lonely life. I don’t let anyone get close...people who get close to me end up dead. Why? I’m a wizard. The world’s only wizard, as far as I know.

95% filler
Revisado: 03-05-25
I like the author. I started with the expedition force series and I know he writes a bunch of short books instead of a few big ones. so I expect filler, but the vast majority of this book was filler. not even character building, though some. im very glad it was free.

im glad I read ambergris first
Revisado: 01-20-25
i probably wouldn't have given it a chance if I read this first. extemely boring with a lot of alienating political pandering. I say political pandering and not cultural, because as a Latino I don't care about manufactured racism in books and medias and the blatant hypocrisy in "iTs aLwAyS dA wHY pEEpO/right leaning spectrum". and the shoehorned in homosexuality which adds nothing to a story other than a token "im so inclusive" faux morality.

please let this narrator do 3 and 4
Revisado: 12-26-24
im glad I happened upon this version. I had originally had the other narrated version in my wishlist but after numerous times hearing the sample I realized I could never deal with his voice. a shame, because even though this is very short. the idea interested me. like a mix of demon mart and a tamer john dies at the end. I will be getting the second book for sure but I hope this tactic wasn't to get people to say "okay fine I'll settle for the other narrator just to hear 3 and 4, and at some point this guy will finish the series. time will tell.

mediocre and awkward
Revisado: 09-27-24
i saw a woman say it was male fantasy as though that automatically made it bad, so i gave it a shot. if a 3rd wave feminist hates it i might love it. the "sex" was overly gratuitous which isnt bad in itself, but it was so insanely awkwardly thrown together. like a kid telling storia to impras his friends. none of it was believable or sensual or even logical to throw in. i let this pack of books sit for over a year before my ocd completionist feelings set in and i forced myself to finish it. i kept hoping itd get better. thats assuming you get past the premise which already pulls at all logic and realism by having you believe someone, brought out of a stasis after an earth crippling decades after the fall, and suddenly has a total turn around and is an unstopable force against the aliens that had so little resistance with all of humanity and its forces before the collapse.

scifi story hijacked by blind hypocritical bias
Revisado: 07-11-24
i had a hard time getting into this group of books from the beginning. it took me a year or 2 to finally get around to finishing it and the last 2 books were completely open and completely blinded by clear bias and projection, political garbage. yet another case of a once respected and enjoyed author that went completely odd the rails to pander to a perceived political agenda and mainlining it as right by forcing all medias to believe the same exact thing.

endless man hatred and white hatred. everything is sexist and racist except against whites and men. gender dysphoria is progressive. gays are mega oppressed. i feel robbed having waiting since 2014 for this. i should have known but since it wasnt in the first book and barely put into the second book but 3rd is all about the political propaganda. i hope i can save you from the complete disappointment.

Revisado: 10-26-23
get over it. im. so. sick. of everything still referencing nazis as though nothing else in the world has existed and is still relevant. It's as trite and cliche as zombies or a shoehorned in love interest in a story that didnt need it. everything else is great.

The entire human race balances on the razor's edge of annihilation, beset by an enemy that turns our own bodies against us, that changes normal people into psychopaths or transforms them into nightmares. To some, Doctor Margaret Montoya is a hero-a brilliant scientist who saved the human race from an alien intelligence determined to exterminate all of humanity. To others, she's a monster - a mass murderer single-handedly responsible for the worst atrocity ever to take place on American soil. All Margaret knows is that she's broken. The blood of a million deaths is on her hands.

Child's grasp on politics
Revisado: 09-23-21
This series went from being a story to being a political agenda pushing hack piece. The ending to the trilogy is a magical vAcCiNe that cures the world? Absolute lazy pandering trash. From the shoehorned in abortion to the ridiculous "systemic racism dem wy peepo do" to the ever present mocking of organized religions. This is a lib's fever dream, not a book. It sure isn't an ending to a trilogy. First and last series from this author I'll buy.

painful
Revisado: 08-07-17
I loved when the book was an adult noir style series. now all characters suddenly changed too pander toward teens in an obvious manner, even the cop. I don't even know if I can finish this one. changing narrators didn't help either. now that I've finished it's even worse than I thought halfway through. the flimsiest of flimsy plots. what was going to be a new favorite author, from the first book, to one I'm never going to be able to stomach again.

When Quentin Draith wakes up in a private sanatorium, he has no memory of who he is or how he received the injuries riddling his body. All he knows is that he has to get out, away from the drugs being pumped into him and back to the real world to search for answers. His first question: How did his friend Tony’s internal organs fill with sand, killing him in a Las Vegas car crash? After a narrow escape, he tracks down the basic facts: He is an investigator and blogger specializing in the supernatural - which is a good thing, because Quentin’s life is getting stranger by the minute.
