To write a successful book, you need to find and work with an editor who shares your passion for your work and your message and who will help you make your book sing. And sing a smash hit. A blockbuster of a message, clearly and carefully constructed so readers love you and your work and leave you five-star Amazon reviews only because they don’t have more stars to give.

How to Edit - Get it…
Revisado: 07-07-22
With a keen interest in all things literary I’ve volunteered to edit a book being written by a close friend, her fourth, and obviously want to be of great help and service to her.
Well, we’ve been working together for a few months now and she has sang my praises that I’m exactly what she needs. I’m thrilled of course, but how would I know?
A week ago I came upon this book, Cover to Cover, and it seemed to be exactly what was looking for to reinforce and fine tune my approach to editing. I immediately bought the audio and Kindle versions and just finished it on Audible.
An absolute must read or listen to, as it clearly explains the small details of being an editor that have so much impact down the line. Like being a fresh set of eyes for the author and asking questions on items that are unclear and need more explanation, for example. And a ton more. Plus, the later chapters on the state of the art of publishing and doing it yourself were invaluable. I’m going to insist that my writer friend get this book as well and read so we can go forward on the same pages so to speak…

Historia
While writers might disagree over showing versus telling or plotting versus pantsing, none would argue this: If you want to write strong fiction, you must make your readers feel. The reader's experience must be an emotional journey of its own, one as involving as your characters' struggles, discoveries, and triumphs are for you. That's where The Emotional Craft of Fiction comes in. Veteran literary agent and expert fiction instructor Donald Maass shows you how to use story to provoke a visceral and emotional experience in readers.

I’ve found David Maass’ books on writing to be ‘must reads.’ For me they help to understand the books of others, and help develop my own skills and depth of writing…

Historia
Some Americans cling desperately to the myth that we are living in a post-racial society, that the election of the first Black president spelled the doom of racism. In fact, racist thought is alive and well in America - more sophisticated and more insidious than ever. And as award-winning historian Ibram X. Kendi argues in Stamped from the Beginning, if we have any hope of grappling with this stark reality, we must first understand how racist ideas were developed, disseminated, and enshrined in American society.

Stamped from the Beginning
Revisado: 04-26-20
From the earliest roots of white superiority in this country, ‘Stamped from the Beginning’ tells the story of human cruelty, neglect and disregard for all others, in particular Blacks, by the dominating and domineering White race here in America.
In direct violation and contradiction to this nation’s so called founding principles it is a story of the racial struggle spanning centuries of one people’s journey to overcome tyranny and claim their piece of the American Pie.
More than a factual and thorough history of events that will give the reader many ‘a ha’ moments as they suddenly understand the causes and impact of many developments along the timeline, ‘Stamped from the Beginning’ is a primer on the dark side of human nature and mans inhumanity towards man. And It has universal implications and lessons for all people of color as they struggle to overcome the suffocation of oppression in their search for freedom.
As a Native American this story, these lessons are especially relevant and meaningful. I will be reading this book many times over.
In closing I remind all readers that ‘inasmuch as you have done unto the least of these, your brothers, you have done it unto Spirit...
