Hard to believe this was free! Fantastic listen. Intimate upclose engagement with the three main family during three separate eras. Sad that it ended. Satisfying ending but left me wanting more.

Too good not to share!

It feels weird to say learning about tragic diseases was fun and often had me laughing out loud, but listening to this treasure trove of history was like hearing a good friend tell a story with great candor and humor. I enjoyed every word and learned a but about history and medicine. Best audio book I've listened to in a while.

Loved taking walks and listening to this man recount not only his family's story, but one similar to many of us whose grans and great grans survived hard times. I laughed out loud one minute and discovered a lump in my throat the next. Funny one minute, poignant the next. A fresh honest narration with all the colorful language of the day. Rich and lush, I can't wait to enjoy his other works.
