Wow!!
Revisado: 08-30-24
I wasn't expecting to feel nearly as strongly about these characters as I do. Yeeran is intense and lovely and Rayan (spelling?) is full of green flags and Lettle is aggravating and frustrating and I'm not even finished with the book but holy crap I'm invested. There is such a diverse cast of characters of different genders and sexualities - it's not something I've experienced before and as a queer person it makes me so so so happy to read about people like me. I've really enjoyed this so far and I'm pumped to see the end!

Historia
The remote island of Masquapaug has not seen a dragon in many generations—until fifteen-year-old Anequs finds a dragon’s egg and bonds with its hatchling. Her people are delighted, for all remember the tales of the days when dragons lived among them and danced away the storms of autumn, enabling the people to thrive. To them, Anequs is revered as Nampeshiweisit—a person in a unique relationship with a dragon.

SO GOOD OMG
Revisado: 07-17-24
I absolutely loved this and I'm looking forward to aggressively rereading it while I wait for book 2!! The story was absolutely fantastic and I enjoyed seeing the characters grow, I can't wait to see how Liberty and Anequs and Theod get on together. The Lore of the world is beautifully sculpted and immediately drew me in completely. The only gripe I might have isn't even about the book - I had to speed the reader up because they talk slowly. Anyway, I can't recommend this book highly enough!!

The narrator... oof
Revisado: 01-18-24
I had to listen to the book on 1.5x speed and I kept getting confused about why I was supposed to care about the main character? She's irritating and I wish the POV was from the healer or Cassian as opposed to the actual main character.

The Ankh-Morpork Post Office is running like...well, not at all like a government office. The mail is delivered promptly. Postmaster General Moist von Lipwig, former arch-swindler and confidence man, has exceeded all expectations - including his own. So it's somewhat disconcerting when Lord Vetinari summons Moist to the palace and asks, "Tell me, Mr. Lipwig, would you like to make some real money?"

Excellent Book
Revisado: 07-22-23
I love this book and I adore Terry Pratchett and Steven Briggs, but there's random super disruptive music in the middle of chapters sometimes. It's pretty frustrating, but as long as you have your volume control handy and you're able to skip forward 30 seconds when the awkward music comes on so you can muddle through, it's another excellent installment in the Discworld universe.

Orphaned. Trained to fight. Raised to fear the power of Underhill. Secretly in love with a man who doesn’t want me. I’m still just Alli, a.k.a. the half-human orphan fae, but my life is looking up for the first time. It only took me my whole 24 years. But when Underhill - the ancestral home of the fae - shatters, making it impossible for any fae to enter, I’m the only one who knows who did it. A secret that will be the death of me if I do nothing.

Revisado: 08-08-22
I love listening to good books while I'm at work and this title was no exception! I had it recommended by a friend and while A Court of Honey and Ash is a lot more heteronormative than what I usually read, I was still super emotionally invested throughout and genuinely enjoyed the characters and the story.

Historia
The orphaned Elsie Camden learned as a girl that there were two kinds of wizards in the world: those who pay for the power to cast spells and those, like her, born with the ability to break them. But as an unlicensed magic user, her gift is a crime. Commissioned by an underground group known as the Cowls, Elsie uses her spellbreaking to push back against the aristocrats and help the common man. Elite magic user Bacchus Kelsey is one elusive spell away from his mastership when he catches Elsie breaking an enchantment. To protect her secret, Elsie strikes a bargain.

A solid read!
Revisado: 05-26-21
I should first say that I did enjoy this book. It was a solid read with interesting characters and an interesting magic system, though I would like to know more about it. Elizabeth Knowelden - if you speed her up to 1.10 - is a pretty solid reader as well.
However: I don't understand why there are two readers, and I think Joel Froomkin didn't contribute nearly as much to the life of the story as Elizabeth Knowelden did. Most of the time he was reading, I was just preparing to cringe when he voiced a character.
I'm excited to listen to the next book though, I've got a whole stack of unanswered questions!

Historia
Tamsyn Muir’s Gideon the Ninth unveils a solar system of swordplay, cut-throat politics, and lesbian necromancers. Her characters leap out of the audio, as skillfully animated as arcane revenants. The result is a heart-pounding epic science fantasy. Brought up by unfriendly, ossifying nuns, ancient retainers, and countless skeletons, Gideon is ready to abandon a life of servitude and an afterlife as a reanimated corpse.

speed up the narrator and it's a wonderful read
Revisado: 12-27-19
I can't speak highly enough of the story and the characters and the lovely worldbuilding. I loved the book from start to finish! I immediately downloaded the next two books in the series. I know hope is slim that they wouldn't be narrated by the same person, but I still hope. The narrator is okay if you speed them up, but between weird, gigantic gaps in the middle of sentences and between sentences is still blindingly apparent.

Revisado: 10-23-19
I sped the narrator up to 1.25 and it was great! Joseph Fink and Jeffrey Cranor do horror really well and I really enjoyed the characters and all the phenomena that come with Night Vale. Sometimes they stray deeply off topic, but overall a pretty good read.
