This is the first book I've listened to by Meredith Potts. She appears to be a self-published author and sometimes people are cautious about giving them a try. Have no fear here. Ms. Potts has done her homework and has turned in a polished story. The heroine has a compelling backstory, the supporting cast is obligingly quirky and the mystery is a good puzzle. I feel like she fell into the trap of telling rather than showing or sometimes telling and then showing in her prose. But as she continues to write I'm confident that Ms. Potts will shine ever more brightly.

One thing I noticed about this book was that restaurants, food shops and the food itself were all beautifully described. Readers may find their mouths watering at some points! Ms. Potts must be a true foodie!

Narrator Lainie Pahos is a good, expressive reader and she had different voices for different characters. Over the years, audiobook listeners have grown ever more demanding of narrators. It's not enough that they can read smoothly and with emotion. They must put on a full cast performance with different voices and nuances for each and every character. On the whole, Pahos did a good job but I believe more experience will give her a greater range.

Both author and narrator have all the basic skills down and have turned in a good story that is presented well. Definitely give this series a try if you like culinary mysteries and corgi pups!

The 44 Rules for Amateur Sleuthing is funny, surprising and action-packed. Kids will love the humor and the quick pace as they follow Mandrake Mandrake on his quest to prove he's not a villain like his father. Grown up mystery fans will enjoy the many references to famous fictional detectives and their worlds. Narrator Andrew G. Raymond gives a great performance, enhanced by sound effects that bring the story to life. Plenty of plot twists will keep readers guessing until the end. It seems likely that this is a the first book in a possible series. I'll be watching for a sequel. The 44 Rules for Amateur Sleuthing would be excellent for a family road trip. Adults and kids will both be entertained.

Robot Revenge is the second book in J. J. Chow's Winston Wong series. I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review. I had not read or listened to the first book in the series. In Robot Revenge Winston, his girlfriend Kristy and his sister Marcy become involved with a neighborhood watch group, a much debated Halloween block party and murder. Bill, the captain of the watch, is a brilliant but curmudgeonly old man who rules the neighborhood watch with an iron fist. Some neighbors had grudges against him, some wanted things from him. But who would have wanted him dead?

There were many things I enjoyed about this book. Winston himself is a fun, nerdy character. I hope the author continues to develop and give more depth to him as the series progresses. Kristy and Mary were enjoyable supporting characters. I especially enjoyed the big sister-little brother rivalry between Winston and Marcy. The mystery itself was unique and well thought out. Humor, an all important element for me, was sprinkled liberally throughout. The tone of the story was gentle, fitting the book snugly into the cozy mystery category. Noah DeBiase, the narrator, used good tone and inflection throughout the book. I felt his voice was a good representation for the story and especially for Winston.

I had one pet peeve throughout the book. As I said, I didn't read the first book in the series and I felt that Chow could have done a better job of introducing the characters and their backstories for new readers. After finishing the book, I still don't really understand what Winston does in the computer world. Something about video games and a YouTube channel. I would have liked a little more info on that. However, it was not enough to spoil my enjoyment of the story and I'm definitely thinking about going back and listening to the first book in the series and future installments.

Would you consider the audio edition of Snow White Red-Handed to be better than the print version?

This is the first time I"ve heard Tanya Eby narrate a book. She is a good reader but I felt her "American" accent was too nasal and as the two main characters were American, it became tiresome.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Snow White Red-Handed?

Snow White Red Handed started a bit slowly for me but it built momentum until I had a hard time turning it off. I loved the Fairy Tale Ball and the final scenes in the forest.

Would you listen to another book narrated by Tanya Eby?

I'd would try another book by Tanya Eby. I think she is a good reader. I just didn't agree with her choice of voice for these characters.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I loved how Prue slowly came to realize that her appearance was not what Hansel liked about her. The moment when they stood together in the hallway of the inn and he just held her after she admitted she didn't understand how her appearance was not bothering him.

Any additional comments?

I love fairy tales and mysteries. I'm very happy to see them together in one series!

Great book bad Reading

This is a normal Parker book, but Burt Reynold's reading is horrendous. I like Burt as an actor but he reading of this book was hard to listen to at times. I had to listen to parts two or three times before understanding what he was saying. This made the story have no flow and made the 8 hrs seem longer. Otherwise, the book was a normal Parker book. I am look forward to the next book but I hope for a different reader.
