I Kelly feeling I'd missed prior books in a series the way characters or plot details were introduced like I was supposed to know what was going on.

That the main was limited in range even when what was going on in the story changed did not help.

Interesting approach the genre

Good character elements. Great narrating. Opportunity for the genre: the entire stat list doesn't need to be written/read every single time, just the one that changed when we know what we're looking for.

Nice story, generally monotone delivery

The plot was ok, if predictable, and with a few holes. The narrator did nicely by varying the voice per character; however, any narration that wasn't spoken character dialog was incredibly monotone without variation in cadence or any other technique. Nice to know his origin story, I'd only recommend it you really can't sleep not knowing and can tough through the narration.

okay book, not as good as the first.

still entertaining. new plot developments and areas as well to be explained and explored. seem to be a lot more focused on the world building aspects than the adventure aspects, at least more so than the first book was.

interesting premise, more of a Tom Clancy book

interesting premise. it seems to be more of a plot twist Tom Clancy book that happens to be set to a science fiction background. versus a story about the magic and everything of that world. might get the next book we'll have to see

the premise is interesting the premise is interesting. the word play is entertaining. the setup is somewhat predictable. the teaser for the next book is not as entertaining as this book

A lot more backstory in this sequel than needed. Eventually I got the sense that I was listening to a CW story that happened to be set to a new backdrop. Nick Podehl still delivers an amazing performance.

Amazing magic set unfortunately in a story told 3x

The magic of the squirrel is new and amazing. The climax at the last fifth of the book is phenomenal. everything that happens up until that point is one story told over and over and over again from multiple perspectives, even, often, from the same perspective multiple times to reinforce the point just in case you didn't catch it. I suppose stories such as these do have their audience and their place, it was just not what I was looking for and not something that I'll continue to pursue.

Not what I was expecting

Good narration by Nick. Story was highly duplicative with the narrator describing something, then reading a prompt of nearly the exact same verbage, then interpreting it. This was the content advancement I'd expect from a filler novel or a soap opera episode, with a lot of little threads advanced slightly but very little over arching plot bringing it all together. I had high hopes for the series based on what else I've heard narrated by Nick, slotting this one for Return and skipping the series.
