WW2 OSS intelligence bureaucracy spy tale.
Revisado: 11-11-24
Nice WW2 spy intrigue with A (female) Heroine main character. Good story, and well preformed.
There is A thanks for listening outro that is not at the end of the book. Almost turned the book off thinking the remaining time was A preview of the next book in the series. End of chapter 20 is not the end of the book.

Renée Ballard and the LAPD’s Open-Unsolved Unit get a hot shot DNA connection between a recently arrested man and a serial rapist and murderer who went quiet twenty years ago. The arrested man is only twenty-four, so the genetic link must be familial: His father was the Pillowcase Rapist, responsible for a five-year reign of terror in the city of angels. But when Ballard and her team move in on their suspect, they encounter a baffling web of secrets and legal hurdles. Meanwhile, Ballard’s badge, gun, and ID are stolen.

Not enough Harry too much Ballard being Harry
Revisado: 10-21-24
Can't really recommend. But if you listened to all the other Bosch books then why not?
Story was alright, Ballard is becoming Maddie's mentor and Harry is finally calming down as super parent.
Ballard lies or says anything she wants to anyone she wants. She breaks more rules than Harry ever did. She lies or misleads her superiors in every breath.
Lincoln Lawyer is still pretty good right?

Simon Vance reads the entire book in the same exact voices he uses in the James Bond books. It was extremely distracting.

A spy is dead. A legend is born. This is how it all began. The explosive prequel to Casino Royale, from best-selling author Anthony Horowitz. Forever and a Day is the story of the birth of a legend, in the brutal underworld of the French Riviera, taking listeners into the very beginning of James Bond’s illustrious career and the formation of his identity.

Book gets good reviews so maybe it is just me? But this book was slow and plodding. Not much of any interest story wise.
May 2024. Will wait A year and give it another listen,

Simon Vance reads entire book in Bond voices
Revisado: 05-07-24
Simon Vance reads entire book in voices identical to his James Bond audiobooks. Made it hard to listen.
The story is good but verging on fantasy sometimes. Yeah its A novel but Alon's luck/abilities/righteousness is getting far fetched.
Alon is one of the worlds most wanted Israeli operatives. But He can walk down any street and sit in any lobby when terrorist are near by. Terrorists who Know of Alon and are seeking to kill him. And his wife can be with him on operations and no one notices the couple. During Tense life and death situations Alon and Chiara can take time to have pointless confrontations about their relationship needs from each other.
Would recommend to anyone who has not listened to the Bond collection many times. Seriously stop hiring Simon Vance to preform spy novel that are not Bond books.

Historia
When Venetian detective Commissario Guido Brunetti is called to investigate a presumed suicide in Venice's elite military academy, his inquiries are immediately met with a wall of silence. The young man is the son of a doctor and former politician, a man of an impeccable integrity all too rare in Italian politics. Dr. Moro seems devastated by his son's death, but is not eager to talk to the police.

Revisado: 05-02-24
Not the best Commissario Brunetti book in the series. At least his wife was not crusading in this book hahahahaha.
The story is alright with A quick conclusion. Commissario Brunetti while not denouncing the professional military class or the aristocratic bourgeoisie. He certainly paints A less than favorable picture of them in this tale from the questura.

Nice continuation of the Simon Riske story.
Revisado: 05-02-24
Lots of callbacks to the previous books. But still A fresh interesting story.
Riske's ability to circumvent or be down right above laws and government regulations. Seemly at will sometimes. Yet other times he is bound by them and nothing more than A private citizen. If Riske can pull impunity of of his derriere with little effort or explanation?
Maybe it's just me. Fine novel worth reading/listening, after previous three of course.

Bosch being Bosch. Does what he wants but thinks everyone else does not do enough to help him.
Ballard trying to manage A team of volunteers (including Bosch) with political heavy oversite.
Bosch fans will like this book, But its not A standout story for the Bosch franchise. The ending is unsatisfying at best.

Great story about how one becomes an illegal spy.
Revisado: 09-13-21
Well worth listening to. Gets preachy towards the end when the subject of the story becomes A born again Christian. It is A tale of the subjects experiences, thoughts, actions and beliefs. So his finding "God" is important to the tale. But it seriously gets preachy last 15% of the book.
Overall A great book for anyone interested in cold war espionage.
