Historia
Told from four-year-old Laura's point of view, this story begins in 1871 in a little log cabin on the edge of the Big Woods of Wisconsin. Laura lives in the little house with her pa, her ma, her sisters Mary and Carrie, and their trusty dog, Jack. Pioneer life is sometimes hard for the family, since they must grow or catch all their own food as they get ready for the cold winter. But it is also exciting as Laura and her family celebrate Christmas with homemade toys and treats, do the spring planting, bring in the harvest, and make their first trip into town.

Historia
The adventures of Laura Ingalls and her family continue as Pa, Ma, Laura, Mary, Carrie, and little Grace bravely face the hard winter of 1880-81 in their little house in the Dakota Territory. Blizzards cover the little town with snow, cutting off all supplies from the outside. Soon there is almost no food left, so young Almanzo Wilder and a friend make a dangerous trip across the prairie to find some wheat. Finally a joyous Christmas is celebrated in a very unusual way in this most exciting of all the Little House books.

The Magnificent Ambersons chronicles the changing fortunes of three generations of an American dynasty. The family serves as a metaphor for the old society that crumbled after the Industrial Revolution, as a Midwestern town spreads and darkens into a city.

A nice Wimsey „Reunion“
Revisado: 08-19-22
As a devoted Lord Peter Wimsey fan (Ive read all Sayer‘s LPW books and even told my husband I wanted to name our firstborn „Peter Death Bredon Wimsey“ lol… needless to say my husband nixed that idea!) I was very excited go find the Walsh „sequels“. That said, I listened to “ The Late Scholar” w some trepidation after reading a few of the Audible reviews. However, I have to say, I thought it was great. No, it is NOT “performed” w different characters, but I thought the reader did an excellent job embuing the different characters w distinct tones that made it very easy to differentiate between who was speaking. Moreover, the narrator has a nice, mellifluous British accent that suited LPW well. No, Walsh doesnt quite achieve Sayer’s level of writerly competence & dazzle, but she comes close enough not to jar. All in all, this recording and book makes for a joyful Wimsey/Vane reunion!

Revisado: 08-17-22
My kids all read this book amd loved it. I had read the McCulloch book about Lewis and Clark, but decided to listen to this take on the expedition. The author stayed close to the actual accountof the expedition, and her depiction of Seaman and his involvement w the Corp of Discovery was realistic and enjoyable. If -like me-you have ever had big dogs, especially Newfies, you will doubly enjoy the book!

Wonderful, lyrical story
Revisado: 09-09-21
The reader did a great job embuing the character w pathos, Southern charm, and humility. Wendell Berry’s writing is lovely. A poignant tale, of an “ordinary” life, beautifully told. It made me think of St Teresa of Avila’s quote “God is found in the pots and pans”.
