So glad to see this author's work in audible!

The first section, a lengthy presentation of geographic details of Jesus travels in contrast to the areas the early church developed made me think that I had jumped into one of Edward's deep scholarly treatises. Hang in there! It soon becomes one of his clear, well researched, and highly readable books giving special insight into the people and ideas central to the amazing first century Christians.

An impressive history but a little much

I'm an aging lady who loves Yogi-ism. My elderly mother LOVES baseball. This should have been a good choice for a long road trip together. About halfway through, she suggested we find something else. It flows well with good narrator. It is heavy on detail - feeling like a a blow-by-blow description of game after game. This is no walk in the park!

Helpful discussion of what the gospels say

I'm so glad to have listened to this. Neither the social gospel folks, nor the right-wing politicized Christians seem to ring true. We can always assume that the truth lies "somewhere in between". This is a great discussion of what Jesus actually said and did while talking with the suffering poor, the "regular people", and the ruling elite in Jerusalem. Very helpful book.

Good overview of the controversy (I think)

I selected this as a good first-pass overview, because it had been criticized by both conservative and by progressive sources. To that end, it was helpful. He references studies and data that would be useful to see in pdf or printed form. It might have been better to read the printed version, but my reading pile is too high already! This was worth the time.

Without John C. Houbolt, a mid-level engineer at NASA, Apollo 11 would never have made it to the moon. Top NASA engineers on the project, including Werner Von Braun, strongly advocated for a single, huge spacecraft to travel to the moon, land, and return to Earth. It's the scenario used in 1950s cartoons and horror movies about traveling to outer space. Houbolt had another idea: Lunar Orbit Rendezvous. LOR would link two spacecraft in orbit while the crafts were travelling at 3,600 miles an hour around the moon. His plan was ridiculed and considered unthinkable.

Interesting story, somewhat too drawn-out

We listened to this on a LONG road trip with adults and a teen who were very interested in the topic. We found it engaging. It was a little too long (by 20%?), with a few too many he's and they's to follow easily. All in all, very glad we listened.

We listened on a long road trip with our grandchildren (13 and 9). We were all 4 riveted! We're all wanting to hear it again on the homeward leg! The ending is not satisfying, but is healthy and ethical.
