Historia
After the gods warred and drove themselves to extinction, the cataclysm of their fall shattered the land of Vigrið. Now a new world is rising, where power-hungry jarls feud and monsters stalk the woods and mountains. A world where the bones of the dead gods still hold great power for those brave - or desperate - enough to seek them out. As whispers of war echo across the mountains and fjords, fate follows in the footsteps of three people.

Good story, terrible narrator
Revisado: 04-22-25
I've basically copied and pasted this review for all 3 books in the series as nothing changes. The story is engaging, the characters interesting, and the author has created a memorable world.
However, this is all ruined by the narrator. He has a stilted way a reading, like he forgets words and has to concentrateon them. The character voices do not match the description the author actually wrote into the story, best example of this is Lik-reefa. The story will say "she yelled" or "he snarled" etc and the narrator just reads it with no inflection.
If I wasn't enjoying the story so much I would have quit after this book due to his terrible "performance".

Not as good as I hoped
Revisado: 03-28-24
The book sells itself as a compendium of ancient myths, and it is. However, the style of the stories and the way in which they present is more appropriate for children. While I enjoyed certain sections I could never really immerse myself into the storytelling as the style is juvenile. On top of that, the narators feel that they are reading off of a script. Overall not worth the time put in to listening.

64 Hours and nothing happens
Revisado: 08-07-23
I struggled with whether to give this series a 2 or 3 stars overall. I finally decided on 3 because it's the middle of the pack, neither good nor bad. Just like these books... It's not that it's a bad trilogy, it's that for a 65 hour series nothing happens. Each book feels flat, there are no stakes and the plot is predictable. I laughed a few times, and was interested mildly, but that's not a glowing recommendation for a series. The narrator uses the same voices for a multitude of characters and reads everything as very flippant, even serious moments. I don't regret listening to it, (mainly because most of it has not stuck with me) because I got it on a 2 for 1 credit deal. However, if you're thinking of purchasing it outright, don't.

We think of Sherlock Holmes and Doctor Watson, but far more seductive is the pairing of Holmes and Professor James Moriarty, 'the Napoleon of crime' - a rivalry unparalleled in the world of crime fiction. Fiercely intelligent and a relentless schemer, Moriarty is the super-villain as megastar.

Not what you might be thinking
Revisado: 06-25-23
While the stories are well written, for the most part, a few of them are completely nonsensical. I bought this with the understanding that it isn't a Sherlock Holmes book, and that's fine. What's not fine is stories about alien invasions, grotesque medical procedures, fanboy love stories, or steampunk. I was looking for Holmes-esqu stories about Moriarty and his varied criminal escapades, of which they're are a few, but not nearly as many as they're should have been. solid 3 out of 5.

Dry, uninteresting, and overall boring
Revisado: 05-28-22
The only reason I gave the narrator 2 stars is because he is a perfect fit for this novel; dry, uninteresting, and overall boring. I was interested in this book as a overall narrative of the Engilsh people and the fact it was 47 hours. The author spends the first 7 hours (in audio time) discussing 1500 years of history. That leaves 40 hours to cover everything that has occured in England since. You would think that would give the novel some depth but sadly no, it becomes a political history. Seriously it should have been titled a ¨History of English politics¨. The author glosses over imperialism in India and the rest of Asia, barely mentions the invasion of Ireland until it relates to 19th centruy politics, and only brings up anything to do with Scotland if it involves a Stewart. To me this reads as a ¨historian¨ who does not know, and did not care to research, anything prior to 1800. I made it to the last 10 hours and have just given up seeing how I zoned out during the previous 15. I cant stress enough how the ony 2 subjects discussed are religion and politics. I am highly dissapointed and do not reccomend you waste your money.

Not worth the Time or Money
Revisado: 06-26-21
The Lecturer waists ample amount of time recounting stories about herself. While I'm not against a professor being laid back as opposed to being stodgy, her use of personal anecdotes are not only time wasting but honestly sound pretentious. She repeats herself constantly leading to more wasted lecture time. I love the Arthurian legends but this was boring, don't waste your money

Great Stories! But not for Simon Vance...
Revisado: 05-07-20
I love this series and I love Simon Vance as a narrator, just not for this series. He never really gets the pace going even during battle sequences. I gave the first book a try but will definitely just buy them and do a re-read as opposed to a re-listen.
