Historia
Blackwater is the saga of a small town, Perdido, Alabama, and Elinor Dammert, the stranger who arrives there under mysterious circumstances on Easter Sunday, 1919. On the surface, Elinor is gracious, charming, anxious to belong in Perdido, and eager to marry Oscar Caskey, the eldest son of Perdido's first family. But her beautiful exterior hides a shocking secret. Beneath the waters of the Perdido River, she turns into something terrifying, a creature whispered about in stories that have chilled the residents of Perdido for generations.

Captivating and Intriguing
Revisado: 09-09-19
This is a great saga. The fantasy was just believable enough to be real. I really enjoyed the multi-generational family stories. I pictured Period and the river so clearly it was entering my dreams (nightmares). A fantastic story that will keep you enthralled till you are sad it ends.

Historia
Zachary Quinto - best known for his role as the Nimoy-approved Spock in the recent Star Trek reboot and the menacing, power-stealing serial killer, Sylar, in Heroes - brings his well-earned sci-fi credentials and simmering intensity to this audio-exclusive novella from master storyteller John Scalzi. One day, not long from now, it becomes almost impossible to murder anyone - 999 times out of a thousand, anyone who is intentionally killed comes back. How? We don't know.

Creative and Well Told
Revisado: 04-17-19
I usually do not select science fiction, but this was a short story so I listened to it. This is a creative and well told story. It presents a world where murdered victims can return to life. The power of the dispatcher is a God-Like essence. I enjoyed the short story.

Entertaining Electricity's Beginnnings
Revisado: 09-20-18
This story is one of the best mixes of historical facts, fiction, fun characters and an enlightening education about the patents and development of electricity and related inventions.
I really enjoyed getting to know Thomas Edison, Nikolai Tesla and J.P. Morgan.

I enjoyed the multiple story lines as it kept the story intricate and unpredictable. The characters were easy to follow and well developed. The narator was a bit droll and bland but the story was exciting enough to keep listening.

Captivating but disjointed
Revisado: 05-26-18
Well, I was hooked to find out what happened...but it was tough to focus on the past/present chapters to get there. Some of the chapters follow the past, some follow the present search for the girl, other chapters connect with the police investigations, and the timeline is not linear. This always messes me with my brain until I get the jist of the story. 4 hours into listening, I wanted to hear more and get to the conclusion. It was not necessarily predictable, but thre were,'t any shocking surprises. I enjoyed the Listen, but I would not recommend it unless you don;t have much else in your Wish List.

Another well told WWII hero story
Revisado: 02-11-18
What made the experience of listening to Beneath a Scarlet Sky the most enjoyable?
The flow of the story. Chronological and easy to follow.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Father Reyes(sp?) for all the good advice he gave to Pinot.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Yes, it made me teary eyed. Pinot saw many horrible scenes during the war years.
Any additional comments?
a terrific and moving WWII novel. One of the best stories about Italian war times.

Fascinating Barcelona in the 1300's
Revisado: 08-19-17
If you could sum up Cathedral of the Sea in three words, what would they be?
Engaging - Historical - captivating
What did you like best about this story?
I enjoyed the historical significance to the life in Spain during the 1300's. I learned that the Catholic Church held a lot of power and Jews and Moors were discrminated against for some absurd beliefs. The world has not changed much.
What about Paul Michael’s performance did you like?
Pronunciation was clear.
Who was the most memorable character of Cathedral of the Sea and why?
I loved the character of 'Mar', his orphan daughter. Such a good soul.
Any additional comments?
I was listening to 'Cathedral'...and that same week was catching up on NETFLIX 'Medici'. Same time period and many similiarities with the story line. Really enhanced the enjoyment of the story.

Grisham continues losing strength
Revisado: 08-07-17
What did you love best about Camino Island?
This wasn't a gripping Grisham story. It lacked the depth and suspense of a good mystery novel and I missed the aspect of legal details. It was a shallow plot to put a naive girl in a position to trap an international thief curcuit. I guess I liked the simple stucture of the story as it was an easy listen and I never got sidetracked.
Would you recommend Camino Island to your friends? Why or why not?
I would recommend the book, it they want an easy listen without much depth.
What does January LaVoy bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Nothing noteworthy. Just a good voice to listen to and some basic vocal changes.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
It really surprised me the Mercer was shown the original stolen manuscripts in the vault. It was such a foolish move that the reader would know that something was amiss. That is when I knew that the story was about to change direction....and it did.
Any additional comments?
Still, a good listen. I give it a B. Not in Grisham's top 10, but worth the read.

A SPY happening NOW
Revisado: 04-27-17
What made the experience of listening to The Spy's Son the most enjoyable?
I enjoyed the story presented as a story and not a journal article.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
When Nathan was finally caught at the airport. I was glad his excapades were over.
Any additional comments?
A really gripping modern day SPY story - and the truth is shocking. This stuff is really happening in today's SPY world between Russia and the U.S.
