Historia
Easy Company, 506th Airborne Division, U.S. Army, was as good a rifle company as any in the world. From their rigorous training in Georgia in 1942 to D-Day and victory, Ambrose tells the story of this remarkable company, which kept getting the tough assignments. Easy Company was responsible for everything from parachuting into France early D-Day morning to the capture of Hitler's Eagle's Nest at Berchtesgaden. Band of Brothers is the account of the men of this remarkable unit.

We tend to think of the Middle Ages as a dark, backward, and unchanging time characterized by violence, ignorance, and superstition. By contrast, we believe progress arose from science and technological innovation, and that inventions of recent centuries created the modern world. We couldn't be more wrong.

Superb reading of one of the most useful histories I’ve come across. The Mark of a master teacher is that the student becomes hungry to learn more, to apply the lessons learned, to pass on useful knowledge. This book accomplishes just that. I look forward to re-reading this!

Are you praying constricted prayers or disruptive ones? Most prayers are constricted ones. They are usually focused on self and envision God as a heavenly caretaker. Disruptive prayers, on the other hand, are powerful, uncommon, and deeply biblical. They focus on God rather than self, seek to advance the kingdom, and submit all things to God. When we pray disruptive prayers, that's when the revolution begins. This book shows you how to equip leaders, fuel kingdom movements, and do real damage to the powers of darkness in the here and now.

Highly organized, cogent, concise, yet eminently readable. Scholarly, yet pastoral. Rather than brow-beating the prayer-less, motivated by making much of God and his grace. Good re-read value.

A master writer and a masterful reader
Revisado: 07-09-24
Exceptional performance of a well-written story. Once again, period and nautical detail provide a firm foundation for what is, at heart, an examination of the human condition. Warfare? Yes, but the primary focus is on relationships: friendship, master and servant, international intrigue and the life of the spy.

Historia
Stephen E. Ambrose draws from hundreds of interviews with US Army veterans and the brave Allied soldiers who fought alongside them to create this exceptional account of the day that shaped the twentieth century. D-Day is above all the epic story of men at the most demanding moment of their existence, when the horrors, complexities and triumphs of life are laid bare and courage and heroism come to the fore.

Worthwhile story
Revisado: 05-08-24
As a child, I read various accounts of WWII and was inspired. As an adult, this account amazes me. Ambrose captures the events of history without histrionics, yet honors the courage and sacrifice of the Allied nations in a way that acknowledges flaws, but celebrates the praiseworthy.
My entitled generation could profit from their example, and from reading this book.

The construction of the world's first truly accurate clock starts a race against, well, time. For if the perfect clock starts ticking, Time, as we know it, will stop. And then the trouble will really begin. Subtle, sly, thought-provoking, and hilarious, Thief of Time is Terry Pratchett at his best. "This delightful production keeps the listener spellbound," says AudioFile.

Revisado: 07-25-23
Terry Pratchett’s story keeps bringing me back, but Stephen Briggs’ performance was Pratchett’s voice. This new version lacks continuity and the life that Briggs consistently bright to each performance. Briggs loved Pratchett’s work. This cast seems to be merely doing a job.
I wish I could have Briggs back.

Historia
In the late 1990s, Patrick O’Brian’s beloved, massively bestselling historical novel series was destined for film. With director Peter Weir and stars Russell Crowe and Paul Bettany signed on for Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World, there was only one problem: The Rose, the replica eighteenth-century warship that filmmakers bought for the production, was in Newport, Rhode Island, two oceans and thousands of miles away from Hollywood. Enter a ragtag crew of thirty oddballs and tall-ship fanatics, including author Will Sofrin.

Well written and well read, captures your interest from the beginning and keeps it to the end. Not just about sailing or tall ships. The interaction with history, explanation of terms and practical demonstrations of teamwork and personal growth make this not just entertaining, but educational. This book is worth reading and re-reading.

Historia
The battle of Crécy in 1346 is one of the most famous and widely studied military engagements in history. The repercussions of this battle were felt for hundreds of years, and the exploits of those fighting reached the status of legend. Yet cutting-edge research has shown that nearly everything that has been written about this dramatic event may be wrong. In this new study, Michael Livingston reveals how modern scholars have used archived manuscripts, satellite technologies and traditional fieldwork to help unlock what was arguably the battle’s greatest secret.
