werewolf survival horror
Revisado: 05-26-23
Only one can survive the night!
“Blooding Night,” by Tim Curran, is an epic werewolf story. Curran put a fresh spin on the overused trope by writing a survival story that opens with women being held captive. Wow! The claustrophobic feeling, in the beginning is intense from page on. The reader experiences the character's fear, panic, and confusion.
Curran tells the reader about each girl's journey of survival. The author gave each charcoal an inner monologue to express the desire to escape. Some of the characters journey’s became repetitive. They all
seemed to overcome similar challenges. The author weaves the backstory into the narrative without feeling like an informational dump.
The story slowly and consistently escalated at a steady pace. As Blooding Night progresses, the story becomes visceral and violent. All the build-up comes to a satisfying ending.
“Blooding Night” is a unique, well-written werewolf story.

Historia
It was supposed to be a family vacation. The celebration of a birthday. A weekend of skiing and smiles. But something haunts the slopes, hunts beneath the snow. No longer does it require the sea, no longer the depths of dark waves. Conditioned for land, a winter terror is unleashed upon the guests who inhabit the resort of White Cap Lodge.

Winter slasher Horror
Revisado: 04-12-23
"Snow Shark" is about a government experiment gone wrong.
Alex and his family had planned a family ski vacation. They were expecting a fun relaxing time until a shark is accidentally dropped in the snow. YES...a shark. Anything is possible in slasher books.
The setting for "Snow Shark" was everything. I enjoy atmospheric books and Berry taps into this with such highly vivid descriptions that puts you in the cold frigid snow and the elegantly decorated ski lodge.
Berry's style of writing is what I prefer to read. Chapters were prefaced in the beginning with locations to help organize the story and altered between characters and settings flawlessly without the sense of confusion.
He wastes no time building a story and the book opens with action and gore and keeps the momentum constant for the entire book. No time prepping you on character development either. The dialogue educates the reader as to each characters personality without too much narrative and even the punctuation changes with each person's style.
The action scenes are brutal. The shark left a trail of blood and carnage as it attacked it's victims. "Snow Shark" is a great winter story. It is also the perfect story to escape from the the summer heat.

Excellent sci-fi horrid
Revisado: 02-28-23
This was excellent! What a blast. This is one of my favorite sci-fi horror collections. Every single story satisfied me. Of Course, I have a few favorites: Black Ocean, Fly Paper, Heat seeker, Ghost ship and Stowaway.
“Alien Horrors”, by Tim Curran was a fantastic collection of stories. It showed the spectrum of his writing. The stories had different monsters and atmospheres, A great collection for any sci-fi horror fan.

Historia
Rusty Moss has raised his niece Mia since she was a baby. Now that she's almost 18, he's worried that the life he's given her - living off the grid in a cabin deep in the woods - is holding her back from her full potential. But that angst gets pushed aside when the undead forest animals arrive. At first it's just a squirrel - shockingly violent and almost impossible to kill. Followed by a grizzly bear, also aggressive and resilient, even when point-blank shotgun blasts to the face are involved.

zombie horror comedy
Revisado: 01-27-23
“Ferocious”, by Jeff Strand, was exceptionally fun. This light hearted novel was a fresh spin on the traditional zombie tale.
“Ferocious” is about Rusty and his niece who slaughter zombie forest creatures. I mean, whoever heard of a zombie squirrel? Those cute little nut gatherers make entertaining zombies 😆 There were other creatures: birds, bears, deer and other animals that have become aggressive.
I loved the relationship between Rusty and his niece. The dialogue between them as they try to survive the chaos was on point. They also faced the dilemma of killing animals, which made them uncomfortable.
The story was gory, but it kept Strand’s flair for humor. Every time I open a Strand book, I laugh out loud. “Ferocious” was no exception.
I listened to the audiobook. The narration was great. It never detracted from Strand’s novel and was a pleasure to listen to at work. 4 ⭐️

Historia
Summer, 1989. It is a time for splashing in the lake and exploring the wilderness, for nine teenagers to bond together and create friendships that could last the rest of their lives. But among this group there is a young man with a secret—a secret that, in this time and place, is unthinkable to his peers. When the others discover the truth, it will change each of them forever. They will all have blood on their hands. Odd Man Out is a heart-wrenching tale of bullies and bigotry, a story that explores what happens when good people don't stand up for what's right.

Gut wrenching novella
Revisado: 10-03-22
Excuse me while I go wipe my tears. Wow! This book hurt. James Newman delivered a powerful punch to the gut.
“Odd Man Out”, by James Newman, is a coming of age novella about hatred and intolerance. This fast-paced novella tackles a horrific subject.
A group of male teens are part of a focus group at Black Mountain Camp. Boys will be boys, especially when they are left with minimal supervision. When a discovery is made that one boy is different, chaos happens.
“Odd Man Out” is a highly emotional story. It was hard to get through the violence and bullying. The subject may yet deliver a powerful message.

Hard core horror story
Revisado: 07-25-22
“Deeper Than Hell”, by Joshua Milican, is a wild ride into Hell.
A homeless heroin addict lives in tunnels under Los Angeles. He finds himself in a strange underworld. “Deeper Than Hell” gave me Alice in Wonderland vibes. Only Milllican does not take us to Wonderland; He takes us to Hell.
Whoa! I enjoy hardcore horror. I was completely unprepared for the visceral writing in this book. The story is gruesome. There are scenes in this novel that make it hard to keep your eyes kn your head and your jaw closed. If you look past the extremeness, there is a rather complex narrative.
Millican pulls the reader in several directions with twists and turns that are unexpected. The book kept me on my feet. I was riding this fever dream until the end. The conclusion of the book puts the entire book in perspective.
Hardcore horror fans should check out this book.

ultimate survival story
Revisado: 07-07-22
“The Martian”, by Andy Weir
Let me preface this review by saying, “This book is not for everyone.”
A few years ago, I watched the movie “The Martian.” and loved it. I immediately added the book to my TBR list.
I will admit the novel had a bit of a rough start for me. Once I got into the book, I was obsessed.
“The Martian” is a fast-paced story about Mark Watney, an astronaut who was left behind. This is the ultimate survival story. What do you do when you are stranded in space with no connection to earth? Survival stories can get dark. The author could keep it light-hearted. Mark Watney has an intoxicating positive attitude. Aside from his sense of humor and charm, he was also resourceful and determined to stay alive.
The novel is fast-paced, but there is a bit of science and math in the story. I felt it worked because it was mixed in with funny monologues and dialogues. Additionally, the reader learns some pretty useful survival techniques and facts about humans and science. This is the type of story that will stay with me.

Revisado: 07-07-22
Let me introduce you to “The Creepypasta Collection: Modern Urban Legends You Can’t Unread”, edited by Mr. Creepypasta.
What an impressive collection of stories!
I had not heard of Mr. Creepypasta before this audiobook. The cover drew me in immediately. I heard that there is a podcast which I will be checking out
This was a solid collection of horror stories. They were well written, and some of them even chilled me. “The creepypasta collection” was true psychological horror. The endings of some of these stories unnerved me. I listened to this audiobook during my nighttime walks. It made it an eerie experience.

"Frozen Child" is a police procedural about a child kidnapping case. The story follows the logical sequence of solving a cas with no real twists or turns,
The story had good pacing. The narrator's preformance was very good. It was an easy audiobook to follow. However, I did need something extra when it came to the story. Fans of polcie procedurals will enjoy this story.

Historia
The modest lakeside resort in the small town of Blissful Point, Massachusetts, once offered an alternative to the crowded beaches of Cape Cod. Katherine lived there for years with her husband, James, a poet, and their cat, Barney. They ran the small resort during the hectic spring and summer months, then hunkered down and endured the often brutal and desolate winters in relative isolation. Their lives were uncomplicated, happy, and quiet–or so Katherine thought–until one summer morning when the dead body of a young boy is found floating in the lake.

ghost story
Revisado: 06-17-22
love a good ghost story. "A View From The Lake" is an eerie ghost story about death. There are several chilling parts to this atmospheric story. Gifune pulls the reader into story where things are not as they appear.
I found the characters in this book a bit lacking. I would of liked more backstory so that I would of had a better understanding of the events that unfolded in the novel. There was a lot that occurred in this loaded story. James was a dark character and his psyche was deteriorating. In addition to James, Gifune introduces the lake which revolved around the story. People drowned in the lake. James felt guilt for the drawing of his foster brother. There was a lot going on in the story and it left me a bit confused
I continued listening because I was hoping the ending would answer Manny of my questions. It did not.
Overall, this is a interesting ghost story. Even though I did not enjoy this one as much as the first Gifune book I read. I still need to read all his books. He is a great story teller.
