Historia
Leonard Dunning insists he’s not the heroic leader his friends—and enemies—think he is. Originally an amnesiac assigned the role of the goofy best friend of the hero in a paranormal/harem comedy/battle school storyline, Leo’s meddling with predetermined events has inadvertently caused the narrative to acknowledge him as a protagonist . . . and prepare a new set of challenges tailor-made for him to grapple with.

Extremely repetitive, frustrating Doormouse
Revisado: 03-22-23
Judy is a boring and repetitive character who takes up half the book, while the other characters get hardly any space. Listening to her constantly accuse the MC of being a cheater or just scold him endlessly is boring and made me dislike this book. I really enjoyed the first two books but I think this killed the series for me. Do not recommend.

Perfectly done fun!
Revisado: 06-30-20
This is a book I wish I’d written, I thought so when I read it online a couple years ago, and I feel so even more after listening to it. The concept is fantastic, and it doesn’t shy away from its monster protagonist. He makes choices at times that made me feel uncomfortable, and I liked that. It’s extremely well-written, quite well-paced, and keeps its focus. Creativity is key here, and you’ll have fun throughout.
Travis Baldree does an excellent job, as I’ve come to expect from his other works.

A fun, finite world with a great performance
Revisado: 06-26-20
This is a well-written, excellently performed story. The game world is very condensed, as it all takes place in a small, specific area. It works in the context of the story (and fits the title). There is very much a feel of Die Hard, but with a rather immature kid instead of a grizzled cop with anger management problems. I overall enjoyed the book, though it definitely leans in to several litrpg tropes, and I don't recall being surprised. It's a fun journey to ride along on, and the MC does seem to progress/grow a bit.
I wish the crafting had been a bit more structured and detailed, but I'm a nerd for that stuff and actually enjoy some grind and slice of life aspect- the hard work being put in leading to rewards. Obviously, in the context of this story's timeline, that would not be possible. Crafting is a key component, so I won't deride the subtitle, just express mild disappointment.
SBT did a great job on this one, and the sound effects felt balanced (something they have struggled with a bit lately IMO), so I give that a perfect score. They continue to set the industry standard for gamelit audio productions.

Historia
The citizens of Azurvale are starting to feel the pressure. War with the Empire to the south is imminent, and there's talk of the city's adventurers being drafted into the campaign. Though this conflict seems inevitable and promises to be horrific, the common folk can do little but act like there's nothing wrong. Rather than lose sleep over something so wildly out of their control, they instead worry about tiny, personal, inconsequential issues. However, the people of Azurvale have yet to find out that their capital is already under threat.

Revisado: 02-11-20
I love ELLC. The humor is always clever and spot-on. The action is phenomenal. The perspective changes are executed flawlessly and at great moments. The characters are some of my favorites. And the audio for this book is probably SBT’s best thus far. Can’t wait to listen to the next entry!

Historia
Ryan doesn’t remember much about his life before becoming dungeon core. Only that he had a bit of a disagreement with the church - something to do with a beheading? Now reborn, Ryan begins to arm his darkness dungeon with devious traps, bestial zombies, and ill-named skeletal creations, without doing anything too evil. Well, mostly. Some adventurers just deserve a stalactite to the head. But Ryan quickly learns being a darkness dungeon isn’t all loot and bone puns.

Well done, but little new
Revisado: 01-30-20
If you’ve read Divine Dungeon, you’ll recognize these characters and the general plot arc. Not to say it’s plagiarized, but the broader plot, the Dungeon development, the main characters...they each feel nearly identical to Krout’s work. I enjoyed the book, though it made some of the Dungeon core tropes and persnalities more apparent and tiresome to me (Dungeon pixies, awkward pixie/core romance, the core, puns, the sassy rogue in the team, etc.). The world felt less developed, but I still had fun, and among the large array of qualities of core books, this was quite well written.
If you love Dungeon core, you’ll enjoy this book. If you haven't tried Dungeon core, I'd still recommend Divine Dungeon first.
The narration was well done, though at times felt a bit over-acted, with screams and such that could be ear-piercing (in a bad way). I’m honestly a huge fan of SBT, but not of their increasingly frequent use of distractingly loud and frenetic music during combat sequences.

Historia
Felix used to be a traveling salesman, drifting through the galaxy and hawking his wares. Used to be, that is, until a freak accident in an out-of-the-way system. One rough landing later, Felix finds himself stranded on a wild, alien planet - front and center - in a deadly role he never auditioned for to entertain a secret audience. The upside? A fellow passenger made it to the escape pod with Felix. With this reptilian stranger at his side, he’s not totally alone. The downside? They don’t share a language.

Historia
Jim and his literal shoulder demon have survived, so far, by the skin of their teeth. After finding a long-abandoned starter village, Jim has begun the process of rebuilding his town. Unfortunately for our favorite adventurer, the threats he now faces are far more complicated than mere monsters. The poor Noob has to deal with angry townsfolk, trade negotiations, and a talking badger. With goblins and bandits also sniffing around, will Noobtown - I mean Windfall - survive?

Even better than the first- laugh out loud for hours
Revisado: 01-18-20
I love Ryan Rimmel’s writing. I was laughing on the train, at work, at restaurants, while walking- everywhere I was listening to this. There’s humor skillfully injected throughout the book, and yet it still has a fun plot, clever pacing, interesting characters, great banter, manages some pathos when called for, and has an intriguing litRPG system.
The narrator does a flawless job with the reading, particularly with the humor. Many narrators I enjoy do great jobs, except with jokes coming across flat. McClain leans into the humor, and enhances it with his choices on timing and inflection. I was genuinely impressed.
Can’t wait for the next book to drop!

Best so far in the series
Revisado: 01-14-20
I really enjoyed the start of this series, but found the third just didn't grab me as much- so I'm very happy I kept going into this book. I think it had the proper proportions of action, prompts, development, character interactions, worldbuilding, etc. The addition of perspectives and information from some new characters was a huge positive shift to me, I look forward to reading the fifth when it drops!

Historia
Sandra managed to survive the first major incursion from the nearby Orcs, thanks in part to the help a certain half-orc/half-dwarf provided. However, Kelerim left her dungeon to seek out his father, leaving her all alone with just Winxa - her dungeon fairy - as company. With the loss of her new friend comes some opportunities, at least; she now has the freedom to craft whatever she wants, and the threat of her dungeon core’s destruction from outside forces is practically absent. She even has the opportunity to upgrade her core size.

My favorite of Brooks' works
Revisado: 01-06-20
There's something that just meshes with me in this series! I've read and enjoyed most of Brooks' other core books, but this one works the best. It's a happier world, there's less prompt-flood (though I skip when I hit 3 minutes of repetitive seed reading- might be something to revise in future books), and the different focus of the core in this series is fun. Highly recommend if you've liked any of his other stuff.
