Historia
Three years ago mortuary cosmetologist Phoebe Glassman lost her husband in a tragic accident. No longer the hopeful wife and mother she once was, Phoebe is disappearing into her grief and into the quietude of her job - restoring to the dead the illusion of life. Then the body of a woman named Pauline Steele arrives in the mortuary, and for Phoebe, everything changes. Pauline is unmistakably Phoebe’s mirror image and bears an alarmingly familiar tattoo. Even more startling is that among Pauline’s effects is a faded photograph of Phoebe.

I could not listen to the narrator
Revisado: 09-14-24
I really can’t comment too much on the book because I had to stop listening due to the narrator. She’s spoke in a very unusual, monotone voice. I’ve never heard anything like it, and I’ve listened to a lot of books.

Historia
After Lucy is found wandering the streets, covered in her best friend Savvy’s blood, everyone thinks she is a murderer. Lucy and Savvy were the golden girls of their small Texas town: pretty, smart, and enviable. Lucy married a dream guy with a big ring and an even bigger new home. Savvy was the social butterfly loved by all, and if you believe the rumors, especially popular with the men in town. It’s been years since that horrible night, a night Lucy can’t remember anything about, and she has since moved to LA and started a new life.

I would’ve stopped listening if I hadn’t paid for the book
Revisado: 08-26-24
I thought Lucy was an unlikable character, and it was difficult to find sympathy for her. And I really disliked the narrator doing the kill voices Spoiler alert… Don’t read on if you haven’t read the book yet…but it was so obvious who the killer was going to be. Many mystery writers, and shows do this where they introduce early on a myriad of suspects, and then it’s always the person who barely has anything to do with the story.

Historia
No longer tolerating her husband’s borderline abuse, Faith escapes to her parents’ California beach house to plan her next move. She never dreamed her new chapter would involve befriending Sarah, a fourteen-year-old on the run from her father and reeling from her mother’s sudden and suspicious death. While Sarah’s grandmother scrambles to get custody, Faith is charged with spiriting the girl away on a journey that will restore her hope: Sarah implores Faith to take her to Falkner’s Midnight Sun, the prized black mare that her father sold out from under her.

Good story if you suspend your hold on reality
Revisado: 06-29-24
For the most part, I typically enjoy this author’s novels, but for this one, I kept just having a hard time believing faith would’ve put her life on hold for all these months for a stranger, and that the grandmother would’ve allowed the girl to go with faith. But I guess that’s why it’s fiction, but it affected my enjoyment of the story. But then I suppose The author’s s stories are always about strangers that come together, so I’m not sure why this one was more unbelievable.

Widowed, penniless, living in her car, and out of options, she’s climbed the fence and crashed in the pool house. All she wants is a good night’s sleep. But when Sophie, the absentee owner, finds her, she gets a whole lot more.

Characters were not very likable and abrupt end
Revisado: 05-25-24
I found that I didn’t really like any of the characters very much, but it was a fairly interesting story. I was really disappointed with the end, because the author seem to wrap it up too quickly compared to all the buildup.

Most of the book was as you would expect from this author. Pretty entertaining but I was very disappointed at the ending because it just ended as if the author didn’t feel like finishing the book

Obvious from the start
Revisado: 01-16-24
The person behind everything was obvious from the start. Much was a bit hard to believe — especially the characters actions based on their history. Such as not calling the police earlier.

I honestly can’t decide how to really rate
Revisado: 10-14-22
Listened to the whole book primarily during a weekend trip and although it kept my interest the entire time I can’t really say I loved it. Some of the characters were so unlikable I didn’t want To listen and the story just seemed to go on and on without anything really happening. I still don’t get what the author was trying to do with the some of the metaphysical things so perhaps I missed something significant
