I love Ilona Andrews. I have nearly every title that they've written. So of course I was going to get this remastered, full-cast version of the title that started it all.

And let me tell you, it was worth it.

I wish I could go back and time so I could listen to this the first time again. Everything, down to the soundtrack and special effects, helped me fall more in love with this series.

Oh, and if you are an Arland fan, he was cast PERFECTLY. Just saying...

Honestly, you can pair up narrators, Alex Moorcock and Zara Hampton-Brown, as many times over as you'd like---I'd listen to the heck out of any audiobook with them.

Yes, the plot and characters were also quite fantastic. *nods*

(Tries to find more narration done by Alex Moorcock...)

A vast improvement from the third installment!

Although Alex isn't my favorite protagonist urban fantasy protagonist (mostly because she's not ready for romantic commitments and feels obligated to be in one, which is ultimately going to set everyone up for some pain and sadness) she's consistent and sticks to her morals. I do like that in her. I also like finding out more about her heritage, even though I miss when the series was focused more on Grave Magic rather than Fae business.

Anyway, I've gotten this far. I like the characters (both love interests have it hard, man) and like Alex's friends when they aren't blaming her for everything under the sun. I'm sure to continue the series to see this through.

If you're this far, you know what you're getting into.

And I did, too!

Although not the strongest of the series (again, some confusing incentives and odd plots that didn't quite fit into preestablished motivations) this was still a fairly decent story.

I want to know more about Freya's magic, though. It's been teased enough. Lemme at that revalation!

I still love this story so far. I kind of feel like all of these parts could actually go together as one large book because of how seamless their stories come together.

However, some plot points were a little difficult to understand, mainly revolving around Freya's own magic and the circumstances of how her mother ends up where she is. (*Attempting very hard not to spoil anything, argh!*) The Spring Maiden's motivations are also a little iffy and/or slightly convoluted.

But none of what's listed above dampens how much fun this series is so far.

Oh, and if you were hoping for the romance subplot to ignite--ignite it does in this third installment!

Okay.

Valera still is not my favorite heroine ever, but she grew on me in this book. The book in general is still very much limited in how many characters Valera interacts with, which let's the reader spend more time with Valera and pinpoint where she has grown as a character. But then, with the lack of a consistent companion or otherwise, Valera does tend to get pretty dramatic. If you are stuck with dramatics non-stop, you do tend to get tired.

But, really. This book is leagues better than the first. I still would have liked more world building, but for what Valera needed to do, it worked.

Erolas is still a cinnamon roll, and I know why he wasn't much in the book, but man. I missed him so much! Ugh!!!

Up front: not as good as the first book, but still a great time!

Billie Fulford-Brown is a beast at narration and I wouldn't have my Goblin King any other way.

I'm certainly excited to listen to the next installment of the series.

The book itself was wonderful. I highly enjoyed each main character and their journey towards falling in love. It was fantastic! Also, I'm a sucker for anything mythological-like, period.

Now, add in the freaking phenomenal Alex Moorcock and his spine tingling performance? Now, THAT is what makes this audiobook God-tier. Blush. So much blushing, But so, so happy.

This was a hidden treasure I'm so glad to have stumbled upon!

When listening to "Of Goblins and Gold," one really can't help but think about the striking similarities between the text and our 1980's almost-from-enemies-to-lovers film, "Labyrinth." We have the whimzy. We have the sister trying to save her sibling. We have the impossible becoming possible. And most importantly--we have a Goblin King who really shouldn't be that mind numbingly attractive and yet here we are. But simply writing this book off as a more *adult* "Labyrinth" would be doing you a disservice. I don't want to spoil that special charm that sets "Of Goblins and Gold" apart, so let me end this review by saying this: if you love a couple that banters and are falling in love without even knowing they are, if you love getting a taste of another world with a promise of exploring more in more books, or if you just like a good adventure, give this book a go. It's worth it!

A nice simmer. I do like nice simmers when I know that I'm expecting them. Makes the anticipated boil even better, If you, too, like nice simmers and some self-imposed forbidden romance, then I would recommend this'en.
