Historia
When baseball fans voted on the top twenty-five players of the twentieth century in 1999, Stan Musial didn’t make the cut. This glaring omission—later rectified by a panel of experts—raised an important question: How could a first-ballot Hall of Famer, widely considered one of the greatest hitters in baseball history, still rank as the most underrated athlete of all time?

disappointing
Revisado: 04-08-24
I was looking forward to learning more about Stan the Man. instead the book turned out to be the rumblings of a gripey old author. Too many words on race, politics and steroids and not enough about Musials exploits during his playing career.

Historia
Killing the Witches revisits one of the most frightening and inexplicable episodes in American history: the events of 1692 and 1693 in Salem Village, Massachusetts. What began as a mysterious affliction of two young girls who suffered violent fits and exhibited strange behavior soon spread to other young women. Rumors of demonic possession and witchcraft consumed Salem. Soon three women were arrested under suspicion of being witches—but as the hysteria spread, more than 200 people were accused. Thirty were found guilty, twenty were executed, and others died in jail or their lives were ruined.

Not about witches
Revisado: 11-05-23
The first 2 hours of the book was great. It was about the Salem witch trials and the witch hunt chaos. At the end of two hours, there was a list of all the women and men that died after accusations of being witches. The book spent the next three hours talking about Benjamin Franklin and his life from childhood to working at the paper. What? Yes! I was very disappointed. I do love the Killing series but I think this title was misleading and used the Halloween season to launch a book.
Of course, the writing is good and the reader was very good. It was misleading to believe that I was going to get whisked back in time to read about the witch trials. So, just be aware of what you are buying.

Historia
Andy Griffith and Don Knotts met on Broadway in the 1950s. When Andy went to Hollywood to film a TV pilot about a small-town sheriff, Don called to ask if the sheriff could use a deputy. The comedic synergy between Sheriff Andy Taylor and Deputy Barney Fife ignited The Andy Griffith Show, elevating a folksy sitcom into a timeless study of human friendship, as potent off the screen as on.

Historia
For most of the last hundred years, Biloxi was known for its beaches, resorts, and seafood industry. But it had a darker side. It was also notorious for corruption and vice, everything from gambling, prostitution, bootleg liquor, and drugs to contract killings. The vice was controlled by small cabal of mobsters, many of them rumored to be members of the Dixie Mafia.

a long and boring mishmash of completely forgettable characters and story lines. one of Grishams strengths has always been likable southern characters developed with brevity. this work is the opposite of all of those hallmarks

Receptionist Pam Beesly and accountant Angela Martin had very little in common when they toiled together at Scranton’s Dunder Mifflin Paper Company. But, in reality, the two bonded in their very first days on set and, over the nine seasons of the series’ run, built a friendship that transcended the show and continues to this day.

Book packed with happiness
Revisado: 06-27-22
Such a fun book. I love all the back stories and had to look up every scene and rewatch it. These two ladies just made me happy every time I started to listen to book. I bought the hardback too so I could enjoy all the pictures. Highly recommend this book for any fan of The Office and if you just want to read a happy and funny book.

Historia
It was a pretty radical idea - a channel for teenagers, showing nothing but music videos. It was such a radical idea that almost no one thought it would actually succeed, much less become a force in the worlds of music, television, film, fashion, sports, and even politics. But it did work. MTV became more than anyone had ever imagined. I Want My MTV tells the story of the first decade of MTV, the golden era when MTV's programming was all videos, all the time, and kids watched religiously to see their favorite bands, learn about new music, and have something to talk about at parties.

A huge disappointment terrible prequel
Revisado: 04-11-19
this was a huge disappointment. A completely unfulfilling prequel to one of the most iconic fictional characters created in the past 30 years. the book never leaves the teenage years. A part of the Hannibal life that could have been compressed into the first few chapters of a more complete character creation. but had this book been shortened it would not have allowed Thomas Harris enough space to try to impress his readers with his knowledge of Japanese and European nuances. I found myself willing the book to either improve or end quickly. neither happened.

Historia
Daisy is a girl coming of age in LA in the late '60s, sneaking into clubs on the Sunset Strip, sleeping with rock stars, and dreaming of singing at the Whisky a Go Go. The sex and drugs are thrilling, but it’s the rock and roll she loves most. By the time she’s 20, her voice is getting noticed, and she has the kind of heedless beauty that makes people do crazy things. Also getting noticed is The Six, a band led by the brooding Billy Dunne.

Historia
Although Scott Carey doesn’t look any different, he’s been steadily losing weight. There are a couple of other odd things, too. He weighs the same in his clothes and out of them, no matter how heavy they are. Scott doesn’t want to be poked and prodded. He mostly just wants someone else to know, and he trusts Doctor Bob Ellis. In the small town of Castle Rock, the setting of many of King’s most iconic stories, Scott is engaged in a low-grade - but escalating - battle with the lesbians next door whose dog regularly drops his business on Scott’s lawn. One of the women is friendly; the other, cold as ice.

Historia
J. Robert Oppenheimer was one of the iconic figures of the 20th century, a brilliant physicist who led the effort to build the atomic bomb but later confronted the moral consequences of scientific progress. When he proposed international controls over atomic materials, opposed the development of the hydrogen bomb, and criticized plans for a nuclear war, his ideas were anathema to powerful advocates of a massive nuclear buildup during the anti-Communist hysteria of the early 1950s.

political biases by authors
Revisado: 10-05-18
the writers carry an obvious bias against the political decisions made by the US leading up to, during, and after WWII. I was hoping for a dispassionate look into the brilliant mind that helped usher in the nuclear era
