Historia
Four days before Christmas in 1943, a badly damaged American bomber struggled to fly over wartime Germany. At its controls was a 21-year-old pilot. Half his crew lay wounded or dead. It was their first mission. Suddenly a sleek, dark shape pulled up on the bomber’s tail - a German Messerschmitt fighter. Worse, the German pilot was an ace, a man able to destroy the American bomber with the squeeze of a trigger.

Incredible story made even better for being true
Revisado: 09-15-13
What made the experience of listening to A Higher Call the most enjoyable?
Well written and expertly read
What did you like best about this story?
I enjoyed learning about the day to day lives of the characters as well as their combat experiences. It was the manner in which the story unfolded, bit by bit that kept me on the edge of my seat, always wanting to hear what is next.
The absolute best though was the reunion, how it came about, how they each felt that was the high point in the story for me.
One final thought, my thoughts are also on Franz Steigler's parents, they are the reason he became the man he did!
What does Robertson Dean bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
I don't know that listening to Robertson Dean was better than reading it myself. I can say he did a masterful job and I thoroughly enjoyed listening to him!
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I must admit to choking up listening to their reunion
Any additional comments?
WONDERFUL read, particularly for WWII buffs, but also for anyone who enjoys a good human interest story!

Written well, POORLY narrated
Revisado: 01-08-11
The story is classic DeMille and interesting to me because I served there in the US Army as a young soldier. I am VERY disappointed that the narrator did not take the time or make the effort to learn the pronunciation of Vietnamese locations as pronounced by the GIs who were there. Our pronunciations may have not been correct Vietnamese but to have the characters use non-GI pronunciations is VERY un-realistic. Some so badly so I had to struggle to determine what location he was actually referring to.
This lack of research or concern seriously degraded my pleasure in listening to this book. Just another slap in the face to Vietnam era vets.

He has done it again. As a former LAPD officer who worked the streets of Hollywood I can fully appreciate the interpersonal relationships and how they relate to create this wonderful story.

Historia
They call him the Oracle. He's got 46 years under his belt and more hash marks than a football field. More importantly, he has a crew of cops to look out for on the streets of Hollywood. From his understaffed office at Hollywood Station, he keeps a close eye on his squad who spend their day in patrol cars, and their nights in the underbelly of a city that never sleeps.

You would have to have been a policeman who worked teh streets of Hollywood for the LAPD to fully appreciate this story. I was and I do.

Historia
One hot Monday morning in 1976, Albert Spaggiari engineered the European crime of the century. A bank president in Nice, France found his vault welded shut—from the inside. Spaggiari and his gang of 20 men had dug a 25-foot tunnel from the city's sewer system into the bank, where they spent a weekend cooking meals, drinking wine, and clearing millions of dollars in gold, jewelry, gems, and cash. Here is the breathtakingly compelling story of Spaggiari, his “sewer gang,” and the most daring, outrageous theft of the 20th century.

Historia
In 1976, Albert Spaggiari engineered the European crime of the century - a bank heist in Nice accomplished "without guns, without violence, without hate." Spaggiari and his gang of 20 men dug a 25-foot tunnel from the city's sewer system into the bank and lifted about $10 million in gold, jewelry, gems, and cash. Tracked down and captured, Spaggiari escaped from the French police by jumping out a window and onto the back of a motorcycle.
