Historia
Obituary writer Nadine Barbault doesn’t mind being called “Lady Death”. It suits the ice queen persona she’s cultivated to survive the fast-paced Toronto Herald. So when Nadine learns that famous (and reclusive) author Dot Voline has died, she doesn’t hesitate to run the obituary…only to discover that Dot is very much alive. Nadine’s screw-up has brought Wesley Chen of the rival Spear no end of joy—she’s been a thorn in his extremely ambitious side for years. But the renewed interest in Dot also surfaced chatter about a mysterious past scandal.

Lovely feel good story
Revisado: 08-19-24
I found this to be a lovely, good mood story. The performance was well done - I liked the mix of perspective from both character's sides. I feel it gave a fresh but rounded feeling to the story. The story itself was exactly the light hearted romance I needed this week. I appreciated the closed-door aspect to the more heated romantic moments - it fit the style of the story writing well.

Historia
Like an avenging, purple-haired Jedi bringing balance to the mansplained universe, Bee Königswasser lives by a simple code: what would Marie Curie do? If NASA offered her the lead on a neuroengineering project—a literal dream come true after years scraping by on the crumbs of academia—Marie would accept without hesitation. Duh. But the mother of modern physics never had to co-lead with Levi Ward.

Lovely story all round
Revisado: 12-03-23
A very sweet story with all the fun twists that make for an interesting read (listen?). I enjoy this genre, and this book was exactly the kind of thing I was looking for. I recommended it for any romance fan that needs something light, fun, and a little heated.
The performance was a little breathy sometimes, and the masculine voices a little cliche, but still lovely to listen to.

A magnificent, thoughtful story
Revisado: 09-27-22
As a person who struggles with depression, the book felt like a mirror being held up to my face. At times it was hard to get through because Nora's story felt so real, and far too familiar. I would recommend this book to anyone who has met depression before, or who would like to understand the mind of someone who does. Matt Haig does a lovely job by weaving an entertaining, yet overall very thoughtful story. It goes to show how little things can really change everything.
A welcome side effect of reading The Midnight Library is I am now thinking of actually living my own life, rather than just wandering through it.

Historia
Gracie Reed is doing just fine. Sure, she was fired by her overly “friendly” boss, and yes, she still hasn’t gotten her mother into the nursing home of their dreams, but she’s healthy, she’s (somewhat) happy, and she’s (mostly) holding it all together. But when a mysterious SUV pulls up beside her, revealing Chinese cinema's golden couple Wei Fangli and Sam Yao, Gracie’s world is turned on its head. The famous actress has a proposition: Due to their uncanny resemblance, Fangli wants Gracie to be her stand-in.

I really enjoyed this book for its light, playful storyline and intriguing circumstances. It was exactly the fun, engaging book I needed. I felt the performance was amazing, and I honestly cannot fault anything - especially as I got it for free.

Fantastic story, deadpan reading
Revisado: 09-08-21
The story is fascinating, and I was captured in the inner workings of this infamous case. The telling of the story is very well done. I was a little overwhelmed by the sheer volume of characters involved, but I imagine that's natural given that it's an audio version. I almost need a drawing or mindmap to keep track!
I did find the performance a little deadpan and expressionless. I would have liked to hear a little more emotion in the story.
The word "surreptitiously" seemed to be used a lot, but that may just be me! Overall I'm glad I purchased and listened to this book, it was captivating and educational. I learned so much about a case just around the corner from where I live.

Exactly what I expected.
Revisado: 06-16-21
This book is one I've been eyeing for a while after watching the Netflix show. It delivered what I expected. I felt the story telling to be a little braggy, and at times I felt talked down to.
I get the cliche "self-help book" feeling of "you must do everything as I say or it will go awfully wrong for you"; that she will overhaul and change your whole life forever if you follow her steps. However, Marie Kondo does offer some good advice and strategies, even if not all of it is applicable or possible. Tidying and cleaning in smart clothes does not spark joy for me though!

Mixed feelings
Revisado: 03-10-21
The premise of the book is not to impart new knowledge, but to remind you of things you already know. This is made absolutely clear at the start of the book. In this respect, I felt the book performed well. However, I found some information oversimplified and I was still disappointed with the contents overall. The humour was enjoyable, but not nearly as entertaining as I thought it would be. I did like the bit in front of the mirror; I had a good laugh there.

Historia
Before she went to join Sam and Mogget downstairs, Lirael paused for a moment to look at herself in the tall silver mirror that hung on the wall of her room. The image that faced her bore little resemblance to the Second Assistant Librarian of the Clayr. She saw a warlike and grim young woman, dark hair bound back with a silver cord rather than hanging free to disguise her face. She no longer wore her librarian's waistcoat, and she had a long Nehima at her side rather than a library-issue dagger.

Fantastic storytelling
Revisado: 02-15-21
I have loved all the books in the series so far. This book can feel a little dark and hopeless at times, but it is still a journey worth experiencing. I absolutely love the strong female connotations and they show up in very subtle ways as well. I would recommend this book to fellow fantasy and fiction lovers.

Lirael has never felt like a true daughter of the Clayr. Abandoned by her mother, ignorant of her father's identity, Lirael resembles no one else in her large extended family living in the Clayr's glacier. She doesn't even have the Sight, the ability to See into the present and possibly futures, that is the very birthright of the Clayr.

Fantastic Fantasty
Revisado: 11-02-20
I loved the story of Lirael, the total immersion into the fantasy of her world is captivating and memorable. I'm frustrated at the cliff hanger of an ending, and I will definitely be buying the next book. The reading by Tim Curry is spectacularly done.

Historia
Most children go through a dinosaur phase. Learning all the tongue-twisting names, picking favourites based on ferocity, armour, or sheer size. For many kids this love of ‘terrible lizards’ fizzles out at some point between starting and leaving primary school. All those fancy names slowly forgotten, no longer any need for a favourite. For all those child dino fanatics who didn’t grow up to become paleontologists, dinosaurs seem like something out of mythology. They are dragons, pictures in books, abstract, other, extinct.

I absolutely loved this audiobook. It gave me a little bit of a reminder of my childhood, and the captivating storytelling did a great job of reigniting my dinosaur passion. I'm currently researching dinosaurs to find my new favourite.
