Historia
Hours later, the man’s cold body lies in the city mortuary, alongside the woman he couldn’t save. And his sister, unconventional nurse Gemma Tate, tracks down troubled police inspector Sebastian Bell to unravel the truth. Sebastian has enough pressure to solve the murder of an aristocratic heiress without Gemma meddling in his case. But the cryptic sentences she brings him from her brother’s notebook could be a crucial lead. If only they knew what “milky way” meant.

Historia
At birth, Violet and Rose Flowers were identical, save for a tiny bluish-purple mark gracing Violet’s slender neck. By nineteen, their temperaments distinguish them, as different as the flowers their mother named them for—Violet, wild and outgoing, and Rose, solitary and reserved. Still, they are each other’s world. Then, on a sweltering, terrible August night in 1928, an explosion rocks Lamb’s Dance Hall in Possum Flats, Missouri, engulfing it in flames, leaving one twin among the dozens dead, and her sister’s life forever changed.

Great idea but ….
Revisado: 01-23-25
A devastating explosion in a dance hall in a small town in the 1920s is revisited 50 years later. The premise only works because no one at the time investigated the cause of the explosion - but with 39 people dead how could there not have been an investigation? Even when we readers find out who is responsible, the rest of the town doesn’t? Lame

Historia
With tainted meat the weapon and corporate greed the motive, The Knowland Retribution is an extremely topical suspense-revenge thriller. Walter Sherman, AKA the Locator, is a tracker who honed his skills in Vietnam. The colorful cast of characters also includes Sherman's two friends--a bartender with a mysterious past and an old black man who smokes like a chimney; a feisty young woman who writes obituaries for the New York Times; a southern lawyer who has lost everything and has only one thing to live for; and more.

Horrible and inaccurate dialogue! Illogical plot.
Revisado: 02-23-24
So much of the dialogue was simply out of place. We’re in 1880s London, and yet people are “fired” or “canned”, when they should have been dismissed. They claim to be “smart” rather than clever, at a time when smart meant you were well dressed. Mrs Watson had an Australian accent, which would be fine if that was part of her backstory. Not to mention the inane and illogical ending when *spoiler alert* one character says that I need you alive [to achieve a vital purpose], then draws a gun and shoots that person. A great idea, so badly written!

Historia
Warning: You may have a huge, invisible spider living in your skull. This is not a metaphor. You will dismiss this as ridiculous fearmongering. Dismissing things as ridiculous fearmongering is, in fact, the first symptom of parasitic spider infection - the creature secretes a chemical into the brain to stimulate skepticism, in order to prevent you from seeking a cure. That’s just as well, since the “cure” involves learning what a chain saw tastes like. You can’t feel the spider, because it controls your nerve endings.

Awesome narration from Scott Brick, but there seemed to be a lot of whispering that made it hard to follow. Good story of a good man in difficult circumstances. Action scenes were well described, ending was satisfying.

#hashtag annoying!
Revisado: 04-27-23
The main character is hard to like - constantly saying things in air quotes and hashtags, playing an airhead while her acquaintances seem to adore her the moment they meet. No character development, and too much of a Main Character vibe to the supposed heroine. Hi hum. You’ll see the mystery a mile away.

Historia
A successful film professor and podcaster, Bodie Kane is content to forget her past—the family tragedy that marred her adolescence, her four largely miserable years at a New Hampshire boarding school, and the murder of her former roommate, Thalia Keith, in the spring of their senior year. Though the circumstances surrounding Thalia’s death and the conviction of the school’s athletic trainer, Omar Evans, are hotly debated online, Bodie prefers—needs—to let sleeping dogs lie.

Historia
After Tova Sullivan’s husband died, she began working the night shift at the Sowell Bay Aquarium, mopping floors and tidying up. Keeping busy has always helped her cope, which she’s been doing since her eighteen-year-old son, Erik, mysteriously vanished on a boat in Puget Sound over thirty years ago. Tova becomes acquainted with curmudgeonly Marcellus, a giant Pacific octopus living at the aquarium. Marcellus knows more than anyone can imagine but wouldn’t dream of lifting one of his eight arms for his human captors—until he forms a remarkable friendship with Tova.

Great premise but only ok plot
Revisado: 04-10-23
I really liked the concept of a sentient octopus even though he was way more informed than would be credible. Interesting characters but the plot arc was so obvious from the beginning that only the quirk of the octopus saved it at all.
