Bad narrator
Revisado: 01-30-25
The story keeps you with suspense but narrator‘s performance is really subpar. Little variation in voice modulation makes it difficult to distinguish male persons and women without exception sound plain ridiculous with their high pitched caw.

Clever and suspenseful financial thriller
Revisado: 01-30-23
Another fantastic stand-alone thriller by Michael Ridpath, expertly read by Michael Thorpe. Not a dull moment, interesting characters brought to full beauty by the narrator, an intriguing story developping in a fascinating international setting. After reading a first book by Mr Ridpath playing in the realm of high-finance I got hooked to this autor and will look for more now. Owning more than 450 audiobooks it is getting difficult for me to find pearls in the audible catalogue - this book has been one! Thank you Mr Ridpath and Mr Thorpe for taking me into your world! I particularly enjoyed the nice balance of business and private lives and how masterfully they are intervowen. Good, unpretentious and belieavable language, dialogues and diction. A slight critical thought I would reserve for the end which seems a bit rushed and abrupt after the whole story is being built up so nicely and after taking the reader to many unexpected turns! Nevertheless a full 5 stars!

Senseless and boring story…

… read by a sleepy reader! Couldn‘t finish it and was really trying hard! Just about nothing makes sense here. It would also help if at least one of the characters would be likeable!

Historia
A group of Colombian soldiers prepares to raid a drug lord's safe house on the Venezuelan border. They're watching him with an American-made drone, about to strike using military tactics taught to them by US soldiers who honed their skills to lethal perfection in Iraq. In Missionaries, Phil Klay examines the globalization of violence through the interlocking stories of four characters and the conflicts that define their lives.

Frustrating!
Revisado: 03-26-22
This book is a frustrating mess of sub-stories that never seem to come to a point where they make sense and persons that randomly come and go in this spaghetti of plot. A clear return for me...

Interesting thriller
Revisado: 08-02-21
I was a bit sceptical when "sexy girls" were mentioned in the book description, however, no obscenities at all but a rather enjoyable thriller playing in the banking and finance world. Not only though, but the author also mixes in a bit of boating and fishing as the main protagonist lives on the shores of Lake Norman. Lots of room to develop in all directions but this makes for a very enjoyable debut. The narration is a bit special but I have to say it grew on me - Michael Neeb is representing the characters well I think.
Hey Audible - where are the sequels? It is very annoying if you sell No 1 in a series but not the following ones...

Historia
Meticulous NYPD cop-turned-private eye Joey Mancuso is summoned to assist the Midtown South precinct in unraveling a harrowing string of savage murders targeting young professional women. These chilling acts of violence echo the haunting words of notorious serial killer Ted Bundy, who once proclaimed that murder is not driven by lust or violence, but by possession—a notion that now haunts the NYPD as three perplexing strangulation cases leave the midtown unit at a loss.

Not like the first two books of the series
Revisado: 12-05-20
Such a disappointment compared to the first two volumes: story-wise but also performance-wise! So predictable, one knows after 10% of the story who the "Unsub" is, only the characters in the book seem to overlook even the most obvious hints. And then the narration of Fred Filbrich... so bland in comparison to the excellent narration of the great Stefan Rudnicki who made all the characters interesting with his deep and very variable voice, giving males and females such great live! All this is gone now - what a shame! It was such a great series in development, the Ex-Cop, the Priest, the lawyers and all...

Historia
Over the past 30 years, while the United States has turned either a blind or dismissive eye, Iran has emerged as a nation every bit as capable of altering America's destiny as traditional superpowers Russia and China. Indeed, one of this audiobook's central arguments is that, in some ways, Iran's grip on America's future is even tighter.

Clear and straight-forward analysis - just great
Revisado: 10-17-20
Very much enjoyed this audiobook. Bob Bear has decades of direct, on-site experience with Middle Eastern politics yet he seems to always have kept an open mind to all opinions and trying to understand and value the various stakeholders histories and sensibilities. His thorough, honest and uncomfortable analysis should be mandatory reading for everybody in the White House, Congress and House of Representatives. Clearly, the Obama administration was the only US government that has tried a new approach towards Iran in the last 50 years; as we know that all has been completely nuked by Trump with the result that the US is back to the unproductive politics known well from the Bush/Cheney admin (and before). A really interesting read with the right mix of history, background and eye-witness narration and very recommendable indeed to everybody interested in ME politics and history.

Boring story that lacks energy
Revisado: 10-17-20
Ballerini is a great narrator - one of my preferred ones in fact - but even he can't save this meandering, boring storyline. When I have to rewind multiple times because I got distracted or simply lost the plot, it is a clear sign that something is wrong. With this audiobook it is exactly like that, Altman just seems to ramble on but the characters never come to live and so does the story. Abandoned at half-time.

Ridiculous and naive
Revisado: 04-30-20
Implausible to say the least... moving around 50bn USD with a mouseclick and entering several bank accounts with a guessed password! This is utterly ridiculous. And then the storyline... a heroine that is so naive that it hurts but gets miraculously saved out of every self-created predicament. Come on... I wonder where all is great ratings came from...
