Historia
The French and Indian War: 1660-1763 covers much more than the few years during which the English and French fought over the division of the North American continent in one of the most neglected periods of American history. In this volume in the Drama of American History series, authors Christopher Collier and James Lincoln Collier trace how England’s other rivals for control of America were eliminated over this period until the only source of conflict left would be between the British and their own colonists.

European power politics that shaped the USA
Revisado: 12-22-21
the most memorable takeaway was the remark toward the end of the book that without the English domination of the North American continent the American colonies never would have dared secede from the British empire

did you ever wonder why the Renaissance happened?
Revisado: 04-20-21
We learn in school school that the Renaissance happened because people in Europe discovered the wonderful heritage and knowledge of the ancient world. what they don't teach is they learned it from Byzantium. The fall of Byzantium to the Turks in 1452 triggered the Renaissancein Italy by the refugees from Byzantium who brought he accumulated knowledge and legacy of the ancient world had been living in Byzantium all along. that knowledge was brought back to the West . similarly have you heard how wonderful Arabic science and mathematics was in medieval times, both in the Middle East and in Spain. again blame this on the byzantines. have you ever wondered why there are all these strange Christian freelance in the East who are not part of the Catholic Church where did they come from? the truth is every major city at the old Roman Empire had its own patriarch. the patriarch of Rome took his see out of the church because of the disagreement with the Roman emperor in Byzantium after Christianity was 1,000 years old. this is a wonderful book for westerners to read it sets the record straight that we owe a huge debt to Byzantium. Sailing for Byzantium is a great book.

Historia
When John Rechy's explosive first novel appeared in 1963, it marked a radical departure in fiction, and gave voice to a subculture that had never before been revealed with such acuity. It earned comparisons to Genet and Kerouac, even as Rechy was personally attacked by scandalized reviewers. Nevertheless, the book became an international best seller, and 50 years later, it has become a classic. Bold and inventive in style, Rechy is unflinching in his portrayal of one hustling "youngman" and his search for self-knowledge.

A seminal classic
Revisado: 09-22-19
I first read this book at the closeted age of 18. it came in a plain brown wrapper from Grove press.
I read this book as a personal exploration/investigation as a teen. The book actually inspired me to visit Times Square in New York City to see for myself.
My recent re-reading of City of Night impressed me with John Rechy's talent as a writer, making it seem as if his words flow effortlessly onto the page. While this book is written as a first person narrative, Rechy lets us get into the mind and motivation of his characters, making them into real multi-dimensional persons.

Historia
For more than half a century, the United States has been pursuing a grand imperial strategy with the aim of staking out the globe. Our leaders have shown themselves willing, as in the Cuban missile crisis, to follow the dream of dominance no matter how high the risks. Now the Bush administration is intensifying this process, driving us toward the final frontiers of imperial control, toward a choice between the prerogatives of power and a livable Earth.

An epiphany
Revisado: 03-07-04
If you have ever wondered how those evil terrorists see the United States, or for that matter, if you have ever wondered just why do so many foreigners see things differently than we who were blessed to be born American, then this book will be a real eye-opener.
Suppose the proverbial "man from Mars" came to visit planet Earth. He doesn't understand anybody's language here; all he can do is see what we do. How can he tell the difference between acts of the terrorists who blow up buildings and buses, hurting and killing people, from the acts state-sponsored retaliation when the Israeli defense forces shoot missiles at homes from helicopter gunships, hurting and killing people?
The lesson of this book is to stop parroting the political catch-phrases our leaders and their ememies use to justify their behavior and look at the behavior itself. If you read this book with an open mind you will never be the same.

The latest volley in a massive smear campaign...
Revisado: 08-22-03
This book doesn't surprise me. Released to coincide with Hillary Clinton's book this is just the latest example of the "Big Lie" phenomenon that any outrageous lie repeated often enough and loudly enough will begin to sound sensible to individuals. This book is the worst form of demogoguery. It is no accident our country prospered as it did during Clinton's administration. Despite his personal problems (sexual addiction), Mr. Clinton was a highly capable and effective leader for his country. When the right figured out they couldn't beat him at the polls they decided he must be destroyed at all costs.
