One of the most moving books I’ve ever read
Revisado: 06-23-23
I could not put this book down. Captivating story, and I loved hearing the author’s voice and accent. Such a harrowing account so richly told. I cried several times and cannot imagine the courage it took to delve into these memories and write this years later. A glimpse into the personal story behind migration that will open your eyes, and somehow uplift your soul to the goodness of humanity. A must read!

Historia
Marie-Laure lives with her father in Paris near the Museum of Natural History, where he works as the master of its thousands of locks. When she is six, Marie-Laure goes blind and her father builds a perfect miniature of their neighborhood so she can memorize it by touch and navigate her way home. When she is 12, the Nazis occupy Paris and father and daughter flee to the walled citadel of Saint-Malo, where Marie-Laure’s reclusive great-uncle lives in a tall house by the sea. With them they carry what might be the museum’s most valuable and dangerous jewel.

Touching on many levels
Revisado: 11-18-22
Poetic and moving, a well-performed and captivating story! Loved the twists and turns. The non-linear style can be a little confusing in an audio book, but artfully told, and moving characters and story.

Inspiring story

It took a bit to get hooked, but I loved this story. At first The narrators voice seemed out of place for the character, but it grew on me. Great story about acceptance, family, and impact!

Historia
There was no reason to bet on Bruce Johnson, given where he started out. Poor, Black, and raised by a single mother who had a secret. He was the child she hid in plain view from the rest of her family. As an adult, he set out to just make a living - to do better than Black folks who tried their best before, while making his Momma and Grandmomma proud. His journey to becoming a successful TV journalist nearly killed him, but he refused to treat himself as a victim. His role was to use his voice and example to pull others out of deep waters.

Historia
In her harrowing, defiant, and unforgettable memoir, Sarah Ramey recounts the decade-long saga of how a seemingly minor illness in her senior year of college turned into a prolonged and elusive condition that destroyed her health but that doctors couldn't diagnose or treat. Worse, as they failed to cure her, they hinted that her devastating symptoms were psychological. The Lady's Handbook for Her Mysterious Illness is a memoir with a mission: to help the millions of (mostly) women who suffer from unnamed or misunderstood conditions.
