Wayne Jones brings so many insights about the (writing and) editing experience; and he doesn't just focus on mechanics, but provides a thorough exploration that balances the intellectual as well as the emotional intelligence required for the production of great, tight writing. He's just super versatile and informed, and really aware of the diversity in his audience. Great voice and pacing, too. I've done yoga listening to this podcast! He's helped me to no end, just in this first year of finding him and his work. (Thanks Wayne!). Check him out if you want to learn more about editing, writing (fiction and nonfiction alike), or even just strengthening your ability to speak with grace and authority.

I blew through 17 hours in one week. This is the best audiobook performance I've ever heard. All the other top-ranking audiobook performances I've listened to through the years have been performed by Frank Muller, who was a genius. Frank Muller is so great, I actually keep a tape recorder JUST so I can still listen to two discontinued audiobooks he recorded. I share this because I am completely in awe at how incredible Lawrence Fishburne's performance is in The Autobiography of Malcolm X. I have long believed that actors who specialize in film and stagecraft don't make the best reading performers; that to be truly great with regard to drama, AND vocal tone, AND timing, AND vocal texture, AND genders and accents... That one would have to actually SPECIALIZE in pure storytelling, above other performative niches. This book is already magical and incredibly alive, resting on the power of Malcolm X's words (and Alex Haley's craft) alone; Lawrence Fishburne infuses it with yet more magic. Never was a book this alchemical in print, and now alchemy-squared in its audio presentation. I've listened to hundreds of books, and this is number one. (Number 2, just to give you an idea, is The Tale of The Body Thief, written by Anne Rice, and performed by the late, great Frank Muller).

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I'd recommend this book to anyone who's knowledgeable about the interplay between our thoughts/feelings/energy fields and physical reality.

What did you like best about this story?

I've been reading and listening to material about manifestation for years, and this book is seriously special. I love how Davis talks about how hard it was for her to become good at 'magic'--THAT I can relate to! Lol and my other fave is the fact that she's actually enhanced my vocabulary in this arena by identifying and defining specific phenomena that occur to a conscious manifester…like, 'snap-back,' I think?! Ugh, that idea NEEDED to be named!!!

Which scene was your favorite?

When she explained why 'want' is kinda whack…or maybe when she explained why 'snap-back' occurs--why we sometimes we manifest the things we think we want and then completely lose them within a short period of time.

What’s an idea from the book that you will remember?

Lots.

Any additional comments?

I love how short this book is; every second is valuable, and it's easy to stay engaged throughout. And the reading is quite good as well.

Would you listen to Men Are Stupid...And They Like Big Boobs again? Why?

I've listened to it a little over two times. Joan is--was :(--super entertaining, so the information that IS delivered is that much easier to remember and understand.

What about Joan Rivers’s performance did you like?

She's got some of her stand-up style in it. It's funny. I've listened to it when I was down in the dumps--partly because I've been thinking about having some work done and I get down about how unsupportive some of my friends can be--and it's helped me turn my mood around. She makes me laugh, and maybe she'll do the same for you.

What insight do you think you’ll apply from Men Are Stupid...And They Like Big Boobs?

Her suggestions about how to find the right doctor. She's really made me get to the point where I'll spend the extra money, just to make sure that I'm working with a doctor who I feel totally good about.

Any additional comments?

I want more in-depth information about the particular procedures I'm interested in. Sometimes I'm disappointed with how superficial some of the descriptions are. But overall, Joan's given me a great introduction into becoming a consumer of plastic surgery and/or cosmetic procedure.
