Historia
When an intricate old map is found stuffed into the walls of the bistro in Three Pines, it at first seems no more than a curiosity. But the closer the villagers look, the stranger it becomes. Given to Armand Gamache as a gift the first day of his new job, the map eventually leads him to shattering secrets. To an old friend and older adversary. It leads the former Chief of Homicide for the Sûreté du Québec to places even he is afraid to go. But must. And there he finds four young cadets in the Sûreté academy, and a dead professor. And, with the body, a copy of the old, odd map.

Too much melodrama

Spent entirely too much time on Hope et al personal melodramas - i.e. love lives loosely held together by the new Jack the Ripper saga.

Narration was excellent. Peter May is top notch story teller.
Revisado: 01-18-24
Sad ending to a great series. To classify it as a murder mystery does not do the novel justice. Loved being immersed in the eeriness of Lewes. The narrator is award winning and breathes life into this amazing story.

Imaginative, creative rendering . Lead detective character tortured by his past and present in the context of a climate change who dun it. Well narrated. Melodrama mixed with science which is not so implausible. You will root for Cameron Brody, the everyman, and hope for ourselves as politicians live down to expectations and threaten our future.

Bernie is the supposed lead but Chet is the storyteller. Plot is twisting but keeps you going. Minor characters are engaging and tie up the loose ends. In short, well done.

But when he arrived, Sherman was in such bad shape he could barely move, and his hair was coming out in clumps. Chris decided to undertake a radical rehabilitation program designed not only to heal Sherman's body but to heal his mind as well - and so Chris decided to teach Sherman how to run.

Sherman’s Odyssey
Revisado: 12-15-22
For those of you looking for an animal triumph story. You may be disappointed. This is an odyssey that interweaves Sherman’s recovery and triumph with a host of encounters with remarkable people and animals. It is saga that gives remarkable insight into the wonders of animal/human encounters during the journey of life which means there are successes and tragedies. Who knew how complicated the psyche of donkeys was. The donkeys and people are heroes on equal footing. A remarkable tale. Enjoy.

Well researched historical imagination
Revisado: 09-02-18
The authors have done a great job tying together archaeology, the history/mythology of the Anasazi people and the environment of the Southwest. Characters are well drawn.
The story is a little ponderous but the reader/listener is immersed in a rich story that stirs the imagination. That said, the story has numerous uncomfortable moments as people and animals are slain. This is a well crafted thriller not a romantic novel. The performance is top notch and illuminates the context and characters.
