These were great retellings of the famous stories we all know, and I love that things like the pea or the wolf were portrayed in very different ways than you’d really think. Fantastic stories, very PG too

Gavin has an incredible night with a mysterious woman at the bar, only to find out the next day that the younger woman is the grown-up daughter of his good friend. Their age difference (23 and 41) is difficult to grasp for many, even though her father has just married a woman 20 years younger than him (and 5 years older than Millie). Months after their exhausting long distance relationship ends poorly, Gavin opens his door to discover an abandoned baby with a note.

I liked Millie and Gavin together, but I definitely thought it was weird that he never thought something like a birth certificate would be necessary at some point in the baby's life or that he kept the damn baby knowing it wasn't even his. Talk about psycho baby brainwashing.

I liked the main characters but the single dad/baby crazy bit was totally unnecessary and pretty freaking weird.

Shane Wilder is a nice guy with a lot of talent and promise, but when he falls for a girl whose upbringing has been less than ideal, he finds himself skating a fine line of trouble. When he tips, it’s all over.

This was a low spice, high emotion ride. Im not sure where my emotions lie for aren’t but I’m 100% Team Shane and could cry for all his losses. Such a heartbreaking story but one with a second chance for happiness 🩵

Lance’s life is a hot mess and he’s trying everything to win over the girl he wants, but she’s extremely toxic. She’s manipulative and forcing him to do things he doesn’t want to do, and he hates himself. Enter Poppy: the kindness person he’s ever met, and a girl he met a decade ago as a teenager.

This book had so much potential but the story— the mystery— was buried under pages and pages of unnecessary talk about food (specifically vegan). We don’t need to talk in depth about what herbs bring out what flavors and break down recipes step by step— we’re here for the mystery.

As a professional historian, I found this book to be phenomenal. Even at times when I thought he might be going off topic, the author expertly tied back in with the overall narrative. His mission is as follows, in his own words:

Why did a hopeful child get murdered for whistling in 1955? What about the intersection of Emmett and the Mississippi Delta at that time lead to his death? Attitudes and intentions are why we should bring it up: to interrogate the present to see what of the past remains, because our present day potential for violence is alive and undiminished.

Bellamy is an unprofessional brat. As an overweight woman in a male dominated field, I get her anxieties in the beginning of the book but good god, she’s rude, obnoxious, and obsessed with pointing out she’s pudgy and wears suspenders. And when he friends show up at her work site, they’re top tier jerks for making her look so horribly unprofessional. They’re why people should really speculate her ability to run the business. Sure, “The Beast” wasn’t the friendliest but I wouldn’t even say he was rude. It was allllll Bellamy.

60% and DNFed. I couldn’t even stomach powering through.

Garrett Daniels is right where he wants to be: teaching history and coaching football with his best friend. He has his dream house on the lake and his brothers all live nearby. He can't believe it when one of them tell him Callie Carpenter is back in town for a limited time. Callie: his high school sweetheart and love of his life. When the two connect, the sparks are just as hot as the last time they saw each other almost 17 years ago.

I admit I read this series out of order so I knew their story a little, but this is a second chance romance without hostility and bad blood between them. They split because they were kids going to different colleges, no cheating or rumors separating them. Their love is obvious from the first interaction and it's honestly super, duper sweet.

TW: Pet loss. I wish I would've been given a heads up having just lost two pets myself.

Olive Moore has been avoiding her hometown for three years now. But a phone call with her mom has her agreeing to spend the holidays back home with her family, she lets it slip she will be bringing a boyfriend with her. Finn Beckett has always had good luck, and after one drink too many, she spills her problems. So he makes her an offer: he'll pretend to be her boyfriend to keep her family off her back and make this the best Christmas ever.

Although the feud with her sister was an easy guess, I loved how protective Finn become of Olive over a few short days. Overall I liked this one a lot, but be warned: there are a lot of glaring oversights (like why her boyfriend lives in Aspen and she lives in Florida and nobody asks about it). The inconsistencies add up but if you can ignore them, their love story is sweet.
