This work appears to be crafted by an author or publisher intent on stretching a story over multiple short books no doubt for ROI. While the overarching plot and narrative may have potential, the entire first book serves merely as a prologue, leaving much to be desired. I’ve encountered sagas where even the character development chapters offered more substance. This feels akin to a made-for-TV adaptation of a beloved novel, lacking the depth and richness of the original.

Regarding the narration, while there’s no fault in the enunciation or delivery, the narrator's accent is somewhat distracting. Additionally, there seems to be a lack of skill in differentiating between characters—women sound like men, and individuals from diverse religious and ethnic backgrounds are indistinguishable. The narrator's mild yet persistent accent exacerbates these issues, making for a less immersive experience."

I'm relatively new to Audio Books; I’ve "read" most of the "top 10” SCI FI audio books within the last 4 months and some of the sequels (Ender, DUNE etc). So I was so excited to find the "The Foundation" I snapped it up without a second glance, my folly. This was my first an abridged version, never again, it really robs me, the "reader" of any intimacy with the characters and their development. But we are talking about the book itself, well, to my horror these folks wanted to produce a ‘space opera” and someone decided to add extensive musical interludes, they felt like 3 or 4 minutes long at times.. That was just wrong; I found myself frustrated and fast forwarding through the distraction of the “special effects. They could have just said “50 years later”, “next day”, “after dinner” At times I had to check my ipod speed setting trying to slow it down ‘cause the narrator would be rushing. This seems like a good story and if someone else produces an unabridged version, I will take a look, I might even read the book, (driven to read by an audio book) this was a let down!
