Historia
Maleneth's return to the City of Echoes is not a happy one – Nightcliff has collapsed into violent, decadent debauchery. Khaine himself is usurped, and her precious coven lies in tatters. Accompanied by an ogor mercenary and a Kharadron anarchist, Maleneth sets out to avenge her sisters, but soon finds herself embroiled in a conspiracy, the ramifications of which threaten not just the city, but the Realm of Shadow itself. To stop it, she must ascend to the blood-soaked summit of Nightcliff’s Bladed Spire, and face an enemy of sky-cracking power before time itself slips out of reach.

good story bad editing, alot of weird silence.
Revisado: 03-10-25
enjoyed the story but the editing in the audio has alot of periods of dead air. the vocal performance is great, as usual for Penelope, but these odd moments of silence make me think it was rushed through editing, takes were not woven together correctly, especially in some of the earlier chapters.
That said, enjoyed it well enough and I'm excited for a potential sequel.

Historia
Evil stirs in Briardark, an ancient forest that looms over the Shyishan village of Felstein, where whispers abound of the spectres and brutes that lurk amongst the trees. One man keeps these perils at bay—Samuel Helmgaart, the revered beasthunter of Felstein—but when tragedy strikes his family, an unknowable foe is unleashed, one that stalks the villagers and turns neighbour against neighbour. Soon, a witch hunt ensues, and in the midst of his own sorrow Samuel’s daughter, Cicely, struggles with grief that has twisted into something dark.

Chaos be Chaosing, Good Enough
Revisado: 01-29-25
The "main character" of the book isnt really mentioned much in the description. The way this character is written can often be eyerolling, a gold metal mental gymnast with the way they justify their actions. If you have read the 40k short story "The Oubliette" this hits alot of the same themes/story beats. If a story can make me hate its main character its usually a pretty good, I was cheering for their downfall the whole way through.
Gabrielle Nellis-Pain does an amazing job, her vocal range is incredible and brings all the characters to life while making them very vocally distinct. Gabrielle does more varied/better male voices than most actual men. Truly a talented professional.
C L Werner doesnt dissapoint either, the story itself does take a bit to get going and the main character goes through less of a "fall to chaos" and more of a "dive" they waste no time justifying murder.

Great Voice work, cringe story
Revisado: 08-24-23
like most Black Library titles the voice work by the narrator is top notch. unfortunately, that can't save the writing, this is one of those warhammer novels that doesn't even try to be a subtle satire on war, it's just bolter porn, outdated and frankly cringe descriptions of women 'a wild beast in her prime' coming from a Grey Knight sounds crazy especially after he talks about her being 'pleasing to look at', why are the grey knights horny? Pandering to self insert power fantasy types is fine, but it isn't my can of worms and this one has not aged well into 2023.
The inclusion of INDENTICAL TWINS who are Grey Knights is straight out of homebrew Fanfiction, especially when the events of the story play out the way they do.
I picked up the audiobook after seeing it highly recommended, but I should've realized the bar for Space Marine novels is on the ground

Historia
In the rain-soaked shanty towns of Excelsis, sellsword Niksar Astaboras drunkenly barters his way to a meaningless existence. Little does he care for the war that rages between men and monsters beyond the city walls, despite portents of its encroaching threat. Mortal life in the Realm of Beasts is short enough, and to leave the shelter of civilisation is to surrender to certain death. But death is coming to Excelsis. The forces of Destruction are on the move, and the realm quakes with each thunderous step.

Good Voice acting but good god what a boring slog.
Revisado: 06-04-22
Characters arent consistent and the orks come across as a joke. Nixxar has to be one of the dumbest men in the mortal realms.
