Historia
Our brains do their best to help us out, but every so often they can be real assholes - having meltdowns, getting addicted to things, or shutting down completely at the worst possible moments. Your brain knows it's not good to do these things, but it can't help it sometimes - especially if it's obsessing about trauma it can't overcome. That's where this life-changing book comes in. With humor, patience, science, and lots of good-ole swearing, Dr. Faith explains what's going on in your skull, and talks you through the process of retraining your brain to respond appropriately....

Love it!
Revisado: 01-26-24
Oh my! I loved this! It was a pretty short listen but now that I’ve listened to it, I’m buying the physical copy for myself and my therapy practice. If you’re not a fan of language then this is not the book for you. But if you’re like me and you say a decent amount of curse words yourself then you’ll love it!
I love that she read the book herself so you get to hear the personality in the book and Amy extra inflection and tidbits! I felt this was a very helpful and easy way to educate about our brains, how it works, and what we can do. I love how she was able to incorporate information about natural solutions over medication, etc. HIGHLY recommend!

Historia
Eight-year-old orphan Beth Harmon is quiet, sullen, and by all appearances unremarkable. That is, until she plays her first game of chess. Her senses grow sharper, her thinking clearer, and for the first time in her life she feels herself fully in control. By the age of 16, she's competing for the US Open championship. But as Beth hones her skills on the professional circuit, the stakes get higher, her isolation grows more frightening, and the thought of escape becomes all the more tempting.

If only I knew how to play chess!
Revisado: 01-25-24
I’m sure this book would be even more exciting if I knew anything about chess! But it was still a very good “read” and I enjoyed listening to the character progress throughout. I watched the Netflix series prior to reading and believe it stuck pretty closely to the book, which isn’t always the case.

Historia
The year was 1917. As a war raged across the world, young American women flocked to work, painting watches, clocks, and military dials with a special luminous substance made from radium. It was a fun job, lucrative and glamorous - the girls themselves shone brightly in the dark, covered head to toe in the dust from the paint. They were the radium girls. As the years passed, the women began to suffer from mysterious and crippling illnesses.

Should Remind Everyone what companies will do to protect their bottom line and that’s not YOU!
Revisado: 01-20-24
I have been interested in reading this book for a while now and finally decided to listen to it. It did not take long to be disgusted with the companies in charge in this book. And I could not help but make the connection between these women’s plight and the plight many are currently experiencing related to the products they are recommended to take and told are safe. The exact things that happened to the women, happen to many around the world today and no one cares. In fact, many who read read this review will probably bulk and complain denying these things still happen.
I enjoyed the way the author was able to make this a story about the victims and not just a factual recollection of events. This made me engaged with the girls and hopefully right along with them and still extremely angry that they had to face the kind of pain that they did.

Historia
When Mia shows up for the interview at a well-known architecture firm, she only has 27p, a squashed loaf of bread, and a jar of peanut butter to her name. She needs this job, even if she is scared to death of the owner of the company. To Mia, huge, grumpy men aren't sexy; they're simply terrifying. She knows from experience that even men of average size can be dangerous. If she weren't so desperate, she'd run.

Accent Makes it THAT much better
Revisado: 10-05-23
As a mental health clinician I did enjoy the way that domestic violence was portrayed in this book. I was on the edge of my seat listening to this story throughout and the accent made it that much better!

Historia
In the pursuit of possible links between childhood vaccines, intestinal inflammation, and neurologic injury in children, Wakefield lost his job in London’s Royal Free Hospital, his country of birth, his career, and his medical license. A recent General Medical Council ruling stated that he was “dishonest, irresponsible and showed callous disregard for the distress and pain of children.” Maligned by the medical establishment and mainstream media, Wakefield endeavors to set the record straight.

A must read for anyone who has ever referenced “Andy Wakefield”
Revisado: 01-06-23
I love listening to science type books because it can be hard to read them on my own, however, this book may be helpful to have a physical copy as it was sometimes difficult to follow without a physical reference. I DO highly recommend that ANYONE who has ever used Andy Wakefield’s name to refute science and condemn certain acts to read this book. I guarantee that you do not know or have all the facts, and should you have access to them, in a book such as this, you might realize you’ve been duped.
