Historia
Compiled by intrepid journalist Neve Pride, this archive of recordings spans the months after dragons emerged on earth, chronicling the communities that sprang up amid the destruction, the scientists, military leaders, and experts searching for a defense, and those steadfastly seeking the missing. Neve and her young daughter Bex travel among the wreckage speaking to those left behind and surviving, against all odds. Neve records everything for history, and in the hopes of locating a clue as to where the dragons came from and how one might stop them.

Couldn’t Put It Down
Revisado: 04-01-25
This is really not my genre, but I was recently introduced to Atmos and I couldn’t resist. Once I got started, I couldn’t possibly put it down. It’s particularly well conceived, well written and well performed. You really ought to give it a try!

Historia
It’s 1984, and life has changed beyond recognition. Airstrip One, formerly known as Great Britain, is a place where Big Brother is always watching, and nobody can hide. Except, perhaps, for Winston Smith. Whilst working at the Ministry of Truth, rewriting history, he secretly dreams of freedom. And in a world where love and sex are forbidden, where it’s hard to distinguish between friend and foe, he meets Julia and O’Brien and vows to rebel.

Amazing!
Revisado: 03-30-25
Required reading in school, I was familiar with the story, but particularly intrigued by the Doldy Atmos labeling. In reality it’s a LOT more than the original story and a LOT more than just a new sound filter!
This is way more than a book and in a way even more than a screenplay because it envelops the ‘reader’, getting into your head, and making you part, actually putting you into the center of the story. It’s as if I was Winston and I was feeling, hearing and experiencing everything, even his emotions.
The attention to detail is brilliant and stunning! The scenes were vibrantly alive, sexy, scary and all encompassing! I must have more, thank you for this incredible production, I’m certain it involved a lot skilled professionals, resources, and funding. This has the potential to change the entire audiobook business. Double Plus!
Oh, and the similarities to current events is overwhelming, especially living in the US under the Trump calamity.

Historia
As the 1960s drew to a close, the United States was coming apart at the seams. From August 1969 to August 1970, the nation witnessed 9,000 protests and 84 acts of arson or bombings at schools across the country. It was the year of the My Lai massacre investigation, the Cambodia invasion, Woodstock, and the Moratorium to End the War. The American death toll in Vietnam was approaching 50,000, and the ascendant counterculture was challenging nearly every aspect of American society.

Understand History
Revisado: 03-25-25
It’s important that we understand our history. So many wrongs have been committed, so many lies told and so many people have suffered for the sins of others. Maybe they thought they were doing the right thing, or saving face, or covering their ass; but it doesn’t make it right ! To better understand today, look to the past because something similar has already happened and the lessons have already been learned.
I think this particularly now that we have the Trump (47) Whitehouse with all its radical, short sighted and misguided appointments. Lead by an egotistical fool, we must be ready for anything. Understanding history is our best chance of clarity.

Historia
Robert Sapolsky’s Behave, his now classic account of why humans do good and why they do bad, pointed toward an unsettling conclusion: We may not grasp the precise marriage of nature and nurture that creates the physics and chemistry at the base of human behavior, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist. Now, in Determined, Sapolsky takes his argument all the way, mounting a brilliant (and in his inimitable way, delightful) full-frontal assault on the pleasant fantasy that there is some separate self telling our biology what to do.

Surprisingly Thought Provoking!
Revisado: 01-30-25
There are two distinct parts of this book, the first works to argue/prove the author (and others) theories as it lays the groundwork for the second half, which is not at all what I was expecting. Admittedly, the first half takes some discipline to get through. It’s wise to take your time to understand the first half of the book. Then get ready for a mind blowing ride to the ultimate thoughts of the author, quite an interesting journey. This book shows incredible insight and proposes a compelling solution to one of mankind’s biggest set of problems. I’m not sure everyone can get through this book, but if you can remain focused and maintain an open mind, it’s well worth the effort. All that said and in consideration of current world leaders today, most notably in my mind in the current (January 2025) United States, I understand what a daunting task the proposed solutions would involve. Well done, sir, thank you!

Historia
We are living through the most prosperous age in all of human history, yet we are listless, divided, and miserable. Wealth and comfort are unparalleled, but our political landscape is unmoored, and rates of suicide, loneliness, and chronic illness continue to skyrocket. How do we explain the gap between these truths? And how should we respond? For evolutionary biologists Heather Heying and Bret Weinstein, the cause of our troubles is clear: The accelerating rate of change in the modern world has outstripped the capacity of our brains and bodies to adapt.

Strong Insights
Revisado: 01-01-25
Highly recommend! A different approach indeed, this book covers a great deal of history to create a framework from which to share advice on some important modern thought and issues. The authors clearly have some crucial insights and back them up well. It’s important to enter this with an open mind, if you can, you will definitely learn something about yourself and both historic and modern culture as their reasoning is clear and compelling. I felt the reading was a bit rushed; clearly they are not professional audio book readers, but please hear beyond that as there is a wealth of insight presented. We all arranged thoughts and present things in our own way. I must also say that always prefer to hear the book read by the author, even if it may not be quite as refined, I think can feel their heart in their voice(s) and appreciate that. Please don’t let this trivial comment dissuade you from getting all the insight they have to share. Stay focused throughout, take your time with concluding chapters and put away your prejudices as there is much to learn here! Clearly the fourth frontier is here and for goodness sake I hope we don’t screw it up!

Brings Stoic Wisdom into Modern Times
Revisado: 12-10-24
The author is very helpful in highlighting and helping the reader understand key areas of wisdom in ancient stoic thinking and does an excellent job of bringing it into one’s life. This is likely the easiest way to learn and apply this ancient, yet incredibly applicable, human wisdom today. Really well done! Thank you sir!

Ancient wisdom expertly applied to modern times
Revisado: 11-27-24
I’ve appreciated and studied stoicism for many years, particularly Marcus Aurelius, one of history’s most impressive characters. This author and book does a particularly good job of distilling his philosophy and making it come alive in our modern lives. Well done, I’ll move onto your other titles. Thank you for your work and for sharing it, this passage (assumedly from Marcus Aurelius) comes to mind…
“Countless stars punctuate the sky, each one individual yet they all work together, forming the whole panoply of heaven. Man was meant to be like this, striving his whole life with patient endurance to cultivate the pure light of wisdom within himself and allowing it to shine forth for the benefit of others alone and yet one with the community of fellow men around him.” Brilliant!

For decades the practice of manifestation has been widely dismissed as self-involved, materialistic pseudoscience. But as neuroscientist and recognized compassion leader Dr. James Doty reveals, manifestation introduces us to different possibilities, and it lays the groundwork for a kinder, better world. Doty grounds us in the practices that change our brain structures: attention, meditation, visualization, and compassion. This mind magic allows us to move through the world in ways that help us see clearly.
