Historia
Agent Isaac Steele has problems. He spends all his splibs on drink and drugs. He has some deep-seated and very much unresolved issues with his parents. And his robotic partner at Greatest Britain’s Department of Clarification, Dr Timothy Stephens, is ruled more by his heart than his hard drive. But all these issues take a back seat when Isaac stumbles upon a case involving the most sensitive information in the cosmos - a Never File, inaccessible to all except those with the highest clearance. He is expressly forbidden to involve himself. So naturally he does.

Great story, and well performed by the author. The sound effects and music additions made for a fun ride.

Historia
In October of 2013, Drew Hayes began posting a story to his website. Written over the thirteen days leading up to Halloween, when each chapter ended the next step was chosen by the readers. Sometimes this led to great discoveries and triumphs, other paths led to Dead Ends, though even in those there was much to be gleaned. For ten years, this tradition occurred, until in the year of 2022, the readers chose a finale. This is their story: a tale of deaths and decisions that spanned a decade.

Even better this way
Revisado: 10-20-24
I wasn’t around for the first few years of the Halloween choose your own death/adventure story as it was written, but it was a highlight of my Octobers for a handful of years. Being able to listen to the story as a whole is fantastic, and I love Jim and the rest of the characters even more than I did the first time around. The choice of narrator for this was 🤌.

Historia
In the world’s most magical metropolis where spirits run noodle shops and cash-strapped dragons stage photo-ops for tourists, people still think fairies are nothing but stories, and that’s exactly how the fairies like it. It’s a lot easier to feast on humanity’s dreams when no one believes you exist. But while this arrangement works splendidly for most fair folk, Lola isn’t one of the lucky ones.

Lackluster narration, decent story
Revisado: 09-26-24
It takes a lot for me to give up on an audiobook; I had to give up on this one. The narrator had the weirdest cadence and made me think of Shatner with the strange pauses scattered around. “But the Paladin must have known more about blood magic than her zealotry suggested, because she picked it apart, blasting through Victor’s safeguards to begin ripping up the strings that held her human mask…in place.” The weird monotone delivery and inconsistent audio quality was the last straw. I like the story so far, but even that is feeling like new paint job over the same story line as the Opal Yong-ae books; a female character who is living a life dominated by a controlling male/father figure, an uncharacteristically strong and competent male character that comes to the rescue unexpectedly (and who is weirdly trustworthy with little evidence), and some other supporting characters, like a male friend/coworker that clearly isn’t a love interest. I’m waiting for it to turn into a unique story, and I’m willing to keep on reading, even if it is essentially the same story as the last DFZ series, but I simply can’t listen to this narrator anymore.

Historia
Viv's career with the notorious mercenary company Rackam's Ravens isn't going as planned. Wounded during the hunt for a powerful necromancer, she's packed off against her will to recuperate in the sleepy beach town of Murk—so far from the action that she worries she'll never be able to return to it. What's a thwarted soldier of fortune to do? Spending her hours at a beleaguered bookshop in the company of its foul-mouthed proprietor is the last thing Viv would have predicted, but it may be both exactly what she needs and the seed of changes she couldn't possibly imagine.

Adventure, but nestled inside the story of making friends in a new place
Revisado: 03-23-24
This book, and its predecessor, are both wonderfully sweet and refreshing. It has adventure and swordfighting, but only as a backdrop to the story of a fighter learning more about creating community with the people she finds herself unexpectedly dropped in with. It’s calming and well read and is a truly nice change from most of the genre. Well worth the time.

A man. His ex-girlfriend's cat. A sadistic game show unlike anything in the universe: a dungeon crawl where survival depends on killing your prey in the most entertaining way possible. In a flash, every human-erected construction on Earth - from Buckingham Palace to the tiniest of sheds - collapses in a heap, sinking into the ground. The buildings and all the people inside have all been atomized and transformed into the dungeon: an 18-level labyrinth filled with traps, monsters, and loot.

Not that much fun
Revisado: 11-06-19
The story of Ishmael Wang got real depressing in this book. Add to that the fact that the preferred method of moving the protagonists story along by this author is to kill off major female figures or to subject female characters to horrible treatment and set the protagonist up as the saviour, the whole things just gets tiresome. And on top of that, if you removed the phrase “Miss Arioni” (sp?) from the book it would likely be shorter by several thousand words (because nearly every exchange between Wang and one of the next most present characters involved restating her name EVERY LINE), and this installment of the series was just not that enjoyable.

Rooting for villains
Revisado: 02-04-18
This is unquestionably one of the best books I’ve read in quite a while. Massive cast of characters, and not a single one gets lost. It takes an unique look at the kind of dynamic that would form given real world superheroes and villains, and drops you into the world on the side of evil. But, you know, not too evil, most of the time. I suck at writing reviews, just trust me, this is worth the time. I’m very tempted to start the relisten right this second.

Good times
Revisado: 01-01-17
A well written look at all of the stories of Joss Whedon. Having watched Buffy and Angel multiple times, and many of Whedon's other stories at least a few times, it was very easy to follow all of the commentary. If I wasn't as familiar with the stories, I think it would have been difficult to follow a lot of what was being described.
My only issue with the narrator (and it's minor, but enough to be gratingly annoying each time it happened) is the narrators mispronunciation of names or other things. She reads "Wash" (Firefly) as "Walsh" and Jana (Jenny Calendar-Buffy) with the hard J instead of saying it with the Y sound, and refers to the episode "Band Candy" as "Bad Candy". It's something that a producer well versed in Whedons stories would have caught and fixed.
