Historia
1945. In the waning months of World War II, Japan hid vast quantities of gold and other stolen valuables in boobytrapped underground caches all across the Philippines. By 1947 some of that loot was recovered, not by treasure hunters, but by the United States government, which told no one about the find. Instead, those assets were stamped classified, shipped to Europe, and secretly assimilated into something called the Black Eagle Trust.

Keeps the writing fresh!

Barry is continually making the Cotton Malone character the centerpiece of his writing yet he keeps making the story fresh and engaging. Always a great read/listen!

Historia
From 1783, when German immigrant John Jacob Astor first arrived in the United States, until 2009, when Brooke Astor’s son, Anthony Marshall, was convicted of defrauding his elderly mother, the Astor name occupied a unique place in American society. The family fortune, first made by a beaver trapping business that grew into an empire, was then amplified by holdings in Manhattan real estate. Over the ensuing generations, Astors ruled Gilded Age New York society and inserted themselves into political and cultural life, but also suffered the most famous loss on the Titanic.

Wonderful narrator, detailed biography
Revisado: 08-05-24
Of course I love Anderson Cooper’s voice work! Who wouldn’t?! Wonderful biography of the Astors and in depth enough without being too much like a textbook. Definitely ready for more from Cooper

Great story and wonderful cast
Revisado: 01-08-24
The Clinton/Patterson pairing continues to make magic! Initially I was skeptical about Bill Clinton co-writing fiction (especially with someone like James Patterson, a great author in my opinion). But the first and this most recent book are really great! I’ve really enjoyed the full cast of voice actors in this particular book and honestly, Tony Goldwyn sounds so much like Billy Bob Thornton that I have a difficult time believing it isn’t Billy Bob. (It is wonderful casting though!!) I’m now looking forward to future collaborations
