I love this sequel!

The characters are lively and believable, even in the midst of an impossible situations. This book is funny, articulate and touching. The historical details were fascinating and felt authentic (to an American anyway), while the dialog brought the characters alive and kept the story moving. I also loved this narrator. Her very British interpretation made conversations sparkle and enhanced my enjoyment; making me aware that I had missed an often subtle English humor when I first read this the book from an American perspective.

Another Winner!

This is the best Murder Bot story yet and I have loved the three previous books. Sec Unit keeps evolving as do the supporting characters. Because I like to read about relationships and character interaction I usually skim through the technical stuff, but in these books I catch myself earnestly trying to understand AI networks (which is ridiculous) and coding, and aliens, and space culture (which is just as ridiculous) and enjoying every minute. I look forward to many more Murder Bot stories. Thank you, Martha Wells, for such a fun ride.

I want to be clear that my only reason for rating the performance a four instead of a five, because the reader did an excellent job, was my feeling that she should have sounded more ethnic. Not in accent or dialect, (though that would be fine) but in the force of personality that just oozes from Talba off the page when I read the actual book. However, this series is absolutely worth a listen no matter who reads it.

Abridged...

Sadly this audio book is abridged and though the story is still lively and the narrator is good, it doesn't have the sparkle of the original. I loved the unabridged book when I read it years ago and was disappointed when I realized that I had unintentionally purchased this abridged copy. The charm and comedy in a Georgette Heyer book is in the dialogue and even after many years the cutting was obvious and detrimental to the end enjoyment. I got a copy of the book from my local library just to make sure I wasn't being unfair, but the book is still a delightful comedy of manners and totally worth a read....but, in my opinion, not in an abridged version.

I will be more careful about my selections in the future.
