atrocious last third
Revisado: 04-27-25
unreal that in 2024, a person that can read and write could possibly be this deaf about autism. wow! The story was okay the first half despite the emoji diarrhea that scott brick unleashes on anything he narrates. The man reads a different book three times the size and all full of cartoonish emotics. the final third especially is very hard to get through because everything devolves into a heap of nothing. last 5 minutes are okay

surprisingly good

The premise is sort of fantastical but the writing is great and the story a lot more than just fantasies

Historia
Three scientists were sent to Virginia to investigate how a human settlement has managed to coexist with primals. Those three scientists have now gone missing. And apparently it’s Lee Harden’s job to find them, get them out, and–most importantly–retrieve their research. But if Lee has any hope of getting past the huge population of primals in the area, he’s going to have to enlist the help of someone he thought he’d seen the last of: a human-primal hybrid named Kat.

chapter headings were enough for me
Revisado: 02-10-25
it's a disservice to make all these brave characters always sound like they talk only when trying to push out it big lump of crap! besides that tiresomeness the story was just not believable enough to become an interesting. I skipped a bunch of chapters and didn't miss a thing

When she fails to return, her consort, Moon, along with Stone and a party of warriors and hunters, must track them down. the monotonous growl of R.C. Bray finally did me in
Revisado: 02-07-25
The story is stale and no character or interaction created any kind of interest in continuing to see what happens to the apocalypse survivors.
bought it on sale, thank God! Even if it were an okay book, the horrible voice and affectations of R.C. Bray would eventually do me in anyways. it's on fortunate for me that he has an almost monopolistic grip of one of my favorite genres. a shame...

ridiculousness of the storyline

there are so many impossible plot holes that it's laughable, however, the execution is pretty good and the characters are solid. Don't know what to say about this book

Historia
Happy Doll is a charming, if occasionally inexpert, private detective living just one sheer cliff drop beneath the Hollywood sign with his beloved half-Chihuahua half-Terrier, George. A veteran of both the Navy and LAPD, Doll supplements his meager income as a P.I. by working through the night at a local Thai spa that offers its clients a number of special services. Armed with his 16-inch steel telescopic baton, biting dry humor, and just a bit of a hero complex, the ex-cop sets out to protect the women who work there from clients who have trouble understanding the word "no".

very fresh, but in a noir way. great writing goes a long way to make this book feel crisp and interesting. I'm a big fan of liking at least one of the protagonists. to me, that doesn't happen all the time and that's when I fold. not here.
