light, easy listen.
Revisado: 12-20-17
this is a light murder mystery..nothing exceptional but rather cozy. Easy to listen to . My only negative comment would be that in the editing of this book , sometimes the last word at the end of a sentence seemed to be cut off and I found it a tiny bit aggravating. a light and entertaining book leads me to probably buy more. Nothing to really sink your teeth into but enough to help the day go by as you're running your chores

Historia
Clare Cosi used to manage the historic Village Blend coffeehouse…until she opted for quieter pastures and a more suburban life. But after ten years and a little friendly cajoling from the owner (a fresh pot of Jamaican Blue Mountain was all it took), she's back to the grind. With a sprawling rent-free apartment directly above the Village Blend, her cat Java by her side, and plenty of coffeehouse redecorating ideas, Clare is thrilled to return to work. Until she discovers the assistant manager unconscious in the back of the store, coffee grounds strewn everywhere.

I can smell the coffee now!!
Revisado: 04-30-12
Would you consider the audio edition of On What Grounds to be better than the print version?
I did not read the book.
Who was your favorite character and why?
The ex- mother-in law is a really charming character. A little meddlesome , a little pushy but always a distinguished older woman with a lot of hutzpah. The characters personality traits are well thought out and follow through all the way to the end. The story flows nicely with just enough information on the qualities and characteristics of coffee and the many different ways in which to process, roast, grind and brew it tossed in for some interest. I found myself craving a nice , warm cup on several occasions.
Which scene was your favorite?
The author does a good job of tying all the characters together with giving you enough information for you to form their personalities without droning on and on. she ties each character together in a nice, cohesive flow. The story is light and makes the read very easy to listen to.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
The narration was very nicely done.

wishing there was more
Revisado: 10-22-08
I routinely listen to the lighter, "cozy Mysteries" as I putter in my garden, clean my house, cook and run my kids around. I love real true crime also but find it harder to follow if I can't fully concentrate on the story. With this being said, I really tried to like this story more because my husband and I go to Napa
once a year to gather our wine!! This story was just okay-- It didn't really ever pull me into the storyline. The characters weren't very strong and the plot, while interesting, just was missing something- - it wasn't meaty enough. I found my mind wandered and I would have to re-listen to it-- not a good sign. Other than lightly touching on vineyards and winemaking, the location could have been anywhere. I feel bad about saying this as I don't want to disrespect the author- I was just never hooked.. and I waited to get hooked- that's why I hung in there almost until the bitter end. I listened to about 4/5ths of it and just didn't really care how it would end so I stopped.

Historia
Northern New Jersey has a new local hero on its cultural crime turf. He's Andy Carpenter, the Paterson defense attorney who can sling a quip as fast as he can outmaneuver a snarling prosecutor. Acclaimed author David Rosenfelt's first novel was nominated for an Edgar Award. Now, in this new novel, the intrepid lawyer is thrust into the spotlight where he risks becoming a media victim...of the most fatal kind.

Revisado: 10-22-08
I actually have listened to the whole series-- very witty and extremely well written. I originally listened to the first one to see if my dad ( he is a widower) would listen to them while he puttered around his house. This is a great series. I love that this character stays "true" through through the entire series. The personality of the main characters pulls you so strongly into the story that you find yourself wishing that you actually know someone like him. The "lawyering" of the story stays light as does the plot so this is kind of an easy listener-- there isn't a lot of blood and guts so if that is what you want- look elsewhere. Overall, you get a funny story with a great dialog and a pretty good plot.

Historia
Long ago, so the Storyteller claimed, the evil god Torak sought dominion and drove men and Gods to war. But Belgrath the Sorcerer led men to reclaim the Orb that protected the West. So long as it lay at Riva, the prophecy went, men would be safe. That was only a story, and Garion did not believe in magic dooms, even though the man without a shadow had haunted him for years.

a great story for young teens and older
Revisado: 07-07-08
I had read these books along with my mother when I was in college. I loved the so much that I would stay up all night long and read from cover to cover and have read and reread them at least 10 times since. I was nervous about trying one of these books because of prior complaints about the narration. I have to agree that this poor guy not only changes the accents of the characters mid sentence, he also changes the pronunciation of the names of the characters at will which is confusing if you are new to the series. One character is pronounced "Chutik" and he continues to call him "Tuchik". This may seem trivial but the list of characters is very long and many of them sound alike. He changes emphasis on the syllables of the names also throughout the book so unless you are familiar with the story, this might be confusing. All this being said, the story is fantastic-- the most contemporary work I would compare it to would be the Harry Potter series-- I hate to say that but it's true. The main characters are easy to fall in love with and on several occassions I was laughing out loud. There is murder and mayhem and at times it gets gory, but overall, this series will continue to be one of my favorites. I will probbably listen to the whole series even though the narration is awful-- I am hoping that with each book, he gets better.

light and amusing
Revisado: 07-07-08
I love cozy mysteries because you don't have to put a lot into it. They are light and usually pretty amusing. The characters are consistant through out all of her books. My only negative might be that these stories have consistantly "happy" characters who are always willing to go out of their way for others-- nobody ever has a bad day, and Hannah's two love interests never seem to be at odds with each other. If you are looking for something that you can deduce from clues, this book is not for you--just a lighthearted book.

Thriller scribe Sophie Katz is as hard-boiled as a woman who drinks Grande Caramel Brownie Frappuccionos can be. So Sophie knows it's not paranoia, or post-divorce, living-alone-again jitters, when she becomes convinced that a crazed reader is sneaking into her apartment to reenact scenes from her books. The police, however, can't tell a good plot from an unmarked grave.

light and easy listening
Revisado: 03-28-07
I listen to books on tape while I work out or do housework and run errand so I like them light so I can just set it down and pick it up later. This author reminds me of Janet Evanovich but not quite as funny. The characters are lovable and quirky. I had some trouble with the narrator trying to give everyone their own voice though- took me some time to get over it but once I did I really enjoyed it. Great light, easy listen. I gave it a three but would consider it a 3.5
