Great, but choppy

There are a handful of moments when the audio cuts ahead or jumps back, and it appears to be a part of the re-recording or compilation. It's not often, and doesn't interfere with understanding of the passages when it occurs since it's only a second or two forward or back, but it's worth noting that these moments exist. Otherwise, it's an amazing collection with a lot of good insights that hold up today.

While Robert Jordan handled romance well with Perrin and Faile in the last book, Rand's left much to be desired here, lol. That said the book was pretty engaging and had some Dune vibes.

Great, save for the first narrator

While 99% of this was great, the very first narrator (only for the shorter essay "An Appeal to the Young") was... not very good. Sounded like a high schooler with social anxiety reading cue cards in front of an auditorium. It didn't have the oomph behind it that such a speech needs. It should be more like Aragorn's "rise, men of the West" speech from Return of the King, but instead I got "Oh the Places You'll Go"...

Don't let that turn you off to the book as a whole though. It was amazing.

Couldn't put it down

I've listened to so many audiobooks, and usually only when I'm walking from place to place. Never has a book gotten me so invested. Furious a plot twist happened right as I got to work. Refusing to turn it off when I got home. I couldn't put this book away.

If you like super heroes or the lore surrounding them, this is an incredible book. I can't wait to continue the series.

More amusing than expected

I couldn't help but imagine the entire story through the lens of the MCU, with Tom Hiddleston as Loki and Chris Hemsworth as Thor. It made the story of Thor's hammer being stolen spectacular.

Vivid writer

It's a shame Lovecraft was a racist, xenophobic classist, but if you can stomach his descriptions of minorities and "rustics", the rest of his writing is unparalleled. Never have I heard dialogue so thick with description. No word is wasted. He uses only the most pungent, concentrated, meaning-packed words, but not like some amateur using a thesaurus to sound smart. I never heard an author paint so vivid a picture in so short a time.

As far as the narrators go, they are all mostly great. Save for one. You'll know him when you hear him, lol. He sounds too upbeat and matter-of-fact about the Eldritch horrors he's describing. He only read two of the stories though, to my knowledge, so it's fine.

Changing Voices

The story is fantastic and well-read, but the voice actors in the recording change so often that it can be hard to keep tabs on who's even talking.

Long-winded but wise

This is much like a college lecture, boring and long, but imparting a lot of solid information and logic. The only evil thing Karl Marx has ever done is make people sit through 6+ hours of logic diagrams explaining how commodities derive value, lol. Ultimately, nothing he says is wrong, and his entire philosophy seems to be that if you push people to a breaking point, they revolt.

A MUST read book!

While very important at the time of it's writing, it's even more important to read (or reread) now. The worrying actions of the early 2000s don't even shine a light on the current administration and its actions. Probably one of the most important books to read during the Trump regime.
