Great Book Mark. Thanks for writing it.
Revisado: 09-22-24
I've known or, and been familiar with Mark for a while. We've been connected via a few social media platforms. We know some of the same people. We've never been particularly close. But we've never been particularly distant. I choose to think we've always respected each other's work.
Reading, or rather listening to, this book, makes me realize we are closer in spirit than I thought.
----------break--------------
I started writing a long review. I was covering how our experiences were similar. I stopped writing somewhere around page 3. I decided it would make a better post, video, or some other type of content.
Instead, I'll just tell you that there is solid chance that everything you'll read or hear in this book, you already know. You may not be practicing it. But you know, in a deep way, what he's teaching you.
That isn't to devalue it. It's actually just the opposite.
You should read or buy this book BECAUSE you already know it.
What the book will do, much like Mark's experiences did for him, is confirm it.
I hope you get the same confidence out of it that I did.
And I hope you act on it.
I know I will.
Thanks for writing it Mark. I'm glad I listened to it. I would rebuy it again.
I listened to it at the perfect time. If you're listening real close, you can hear me yelling at the top of my lungs..
I KNEW IT! :-)

Does nature really make us feel better? The 3-Day Effect takes a look at the science behind why being in the wild can make us happier, healthier, and more creative. Whether it’s rafting down Utah’s Green River, hiking in Utah’s wilderness, or walking through Rock Creek Park in Washington, DC, scientists are finding that the more exposure humans have to nature, the more we can benefit from reduced anxiety, enhanced creativity, and overall well-being.

I Finished It
Revisado: 04-17-22
Which is actually a pretty big deal. Alot of books are so boring that I don't even bother finishing them. The orator of this book did an excellent job of keeping me interested..
The content was interesting as well. The reason I listened to this book is because I have been
considering just such a break.. My wife and I are both retired and after 39 years, 4 kids and 9 grandkids, it's time to spend some time together again.

Historia
Intellectuals and Race is a radical book in the original sense - one that goes to the root of the problem. The role of intellectuals in racial strife is explored in an international context that puts the American experience in a wholly new light. The book explores the incentives, the visions, and the rationales that drive intellectuals at the highest levels to conclusions that have often turned out to be counterproductive and even disastrous, not only for particular racial or ethnic groups but for societies as a whole.

Interesting and Enlightening
Revisado: 09-16-21
There are too many excellent examples made in this book to cover all of them. My main takeaway is that the progressives have always done the same thing they are doing now. While outside influences may affect some outcomes, the ultimate responsibility is individualistic.

Wasn't What I Expected
Revisado: 08-29-21
This was a good book. It just wasn't what I was expecting. The narrator did a great job of bringing out the points of the book, but those points weren't what I was expecting. I suppose a lot of people will like this book. I suppose they will buy it for the same reason I did. The title. However it took me a few years to actually do what the title says, because the beginning of the book just wasn't delivering for me personally. You may have a different experience though. I do recommend it for those who are trying to figure out the "whys" of things they do when it comes to finishing. I just wish there would have been a system included in the book.

Historia
In this eye-opening account, Cal Newport debunks the long-held belief that "follow your passion" is good advice. Not only is the cliché flawed - preexisting passions are rare and have little to do with how most people end up loving their work - but it can also be dangerous, leading to anxiety and chronic job hopping. After making his case against passion, Newport sets out on a quest to discover the reality of how people end up loving what they do.

Middle of the road stuff.
Revisado: 05-06-21
I am sure that people will love this book. But for me it was just middle of the road kind of stuff. Repetition of other concepts, other books, and other processes. It was told in an interesting way. And I think the author has a vast amount of experience. It just wasn't that eye opening to me.
I did give him a 4 star on the story because his stories were interesting.

"I’m James Taylor and I’m a professional autobiographer", says the celebrated folk singer at the start of this tender audio memoir. Through decades of music by one of the best-selling musicians of all time, who created classics like "Fire and Rain" and "Carolina in My Mind", James Taylor has doled out his history in the poetry of his work. Taylor says his early life is, "the source of many of my songs", and Break Shot is a tour of his first 21 years in rich, new detail.

I'm a James Taylor fan. I have 20+ albums. I saw Two Lane Black Top because of him. I liked this because I got to hear in his own words/voice how some of his life experiences happened. Politically, we're different. But I knew that before I listened. and listen I did

Historia
Man’s Search for Meaning is the chilling yet inspirational story of Viktor Frankl’s struggle to hold on to hope during the unspeakable horrors of his years as a prisoner in Nazi concentration camps. Between 1942 and 1945 Frankl labored in four different camps, including Auschwitz, while his parents, brother, and pregnant wife perished. Based on his own experience and the experiences of those he treated in his practice, Frankl argues that we cannot avoid suffering, but we can choose how to cope with it, find meaning in it, and move forward with renewed purpose.

it wasn't what I expected, nonetheless this is a great book. I really couldn't recommend it if you're looking for something in today's "How to be..fill in the blank with happy thoughts"..however this is an excellent book from someone who faced serious challenges and kept moving forward.
