What happened to Susan Duerden????
Revisado: 02-11-16
This one was truly a disappointment. I could not stand what the narrator did to the heroins voice. She did an excellent job with most, if not all, of the other characters but ruined the heroin by making her sound stiff and robotic. I'm assuming she was attempting to give her a Boston accent, but instead made her sound very mechanical. She would have been better off just forgoing the attempt at a Boston accent and gone with a generic American accent or whatever would have been easiest for the narrator to pull off successfully. It was so awful the book should be re-titled "My American Android Duchess".
I guess I can't blame it all on the narrator though. The story just wasn't that great either. I got almost to the last 1/3 of the book and just quit. I couldn't even see it through to the end it was that annoying and unengaging.

Historia
Of all the universe's forces, the most mysterious, confounding, and humbling is the power of love. Alma Katsu's acclaimed trilogy - a supernatural epic that began with The Taker and sparked a chase around the world in The Reckoning - comes to a stunning conclusion, and brings Lanore McIlvrae to a final encounter with Adair, her powerful nemesis. Dismayed by Adair's otherworldly powers and afraid of his passionate temper, Lanore has run from him across time, even imprisoning him behind a wall for two centuries to save Jonathan, her eternal love.

Unusual, Haunting and Poetic...
Revisado: 03-13-14
I'm not sure what all the low ratings I've seen for this book lately on Goodreads are about. I loved this book. I love this series, which I sometimes read and sometimes listened to in audiobook format. My favorite part of the whole thing is the author's style of writing; very elegant, very deep and poetic. So the ratings baffle me. I can only assume that people are so caught up in what's "expected" that they don't like it when something veers off course in the romance world.
This book... no, this series is different. It's emotional, cerebral and thought provoking. It lingers inside your head. Poorly written books don't bother to hang around in your spongy brain matter or imprint themselves there permanently. Unless, of course they're traumatizingly awful. Books that are different stay with you. You ponder over them and think about them for days after you've read them; even if the story made you upset. That's the sign of a good book; when it can mash at all your buttons and stir you up in some way.
This series is not like most of your other typical PNR's. In fact, labeling it is difficult because it crosses genres. I think this may be what bothers people; that they don't know what to expect from it; that it's unpredictable; that it's different. I, for one, like different, like the unexpected, like unpredictability, like books that cross genres and take you on a soul searching or philosophical journey.
But I guess people are disappointed... since there are no vampires, werewolves, zombies or shifters. The heroine isn't some kickbutt, weapon wielding femme fatale; the hero (who is actually rather depraved and debauched in the first book) is not a warrior, alpha male with rippling abs and bulging muscles; and the plot and storyline are not cookie cutter. Go figure.
I have this author, series and narrator (Laurel Lefkow) on my favorites list and wholeheartedly recommend it everyone. Different is good people! It's the best! Step out of your comfort zone!

Such a sweet and sexy little novella. There is some turbulence that happens between Braden and Joss, but in the end it left me feeling happy-good vibrations inside my heart. Love it!!!

Historia
The holidays are upon us, and this year Audible is very happy to present to our members one of Charles Dickens’ most popular Christmas stories, The Cricket on the Hearth. This holiday classic (original subtitle: “A Fairy Tale of Home”) tells the innocent, picturesque, and charming story of a poor family and their would-be guardian angel; in short, a delightful vision of Victorian Christmas. As always, a great story calls for a great voice, so we’ve brought in legendary actor and record-breaking Audie and Grammy award-winning narrator Jim Dale (The Night Circus). Happy holidays and happy listening!

Very charming Victorian era story and everything you'd expect from a Charlies Dickens story. Jim Dale's narration is very pleasant and memorable. I'm going to have to replay this for my children.

Wonderful story! Best narrator EVER!
Revisado: 12-29-13
I heart Nicholas Boulton. He's absolutely at the top of my list of narrators. In the number one spot. I also heart Laura Kinsale for creating such interesting characters and throwing them into the most creative conflicts. All her stories are full of adventure and are quite unputdownable. The two main characters in this story are so unique as is the situation they both find themselves in together. You will love it! I promise!

Revisado: 12-29-13
You cannot go wrong with any of Laura Kinsale's novels. This one happens to be one of my favorites though. I think the interactions the character has with all the animals is what endears it to me the most. As always, an epic and adventurous story by Miss Kinsale and brilliant narration by Mr. Boulton. Loved it!!!

Becoming increasingly uninterested in this series.
Revisado: 12-29-13
I love Keri Arthur and this has been one of my favorite series of hers (second only to Riley Jenson), but I've found myself rather bored with this book. I can't really put my finger on it, but it just didn't grab me like some of the others in the past. For me, this time was just... meh.

If only it weren't broken into tiny parts...
Revisado: 12-15-13
I want to give this story a better review. The writing and narration is good. I like the authors choice of Irma Kent as narrator. The story is enjoyable. But the fact that the book is broken into many fragments is both frustrating and disappointing because the fragments are really small. It's like purchasing several excerpts. Because lets be honest, these fragments are small enough TO BE excerpts and in the end this really jacks up the price you pay to reach the stories conclusion.
I do know that the author does plan on releasing the full unfragmented version in one audiobook and/or kindle file at a later date when it's completed. I look forward to that time so that I can give this story an unbiased review based on the writing, story and narration without worrying about the excessive fragmentation that's currently affecting my opinion.

Revisado: 12-14-13
I'm not sure why I wasted my time and money on this one since I didn't care for the narration in the last one. But this one was just as much a disappointment. I usually LOVE Anne Stuart books. But this series, so far, has not worked for me in the least. I want to blame it solely on the narration, but with this story I am just not sure anymore. I'm thinking both the story and the narration is a failure this time.

Another Great Adventure and Supreme Performance!
Revisado: 12-14-13
THIS right here... is why Laura Kinsale is an auto-buy author for me. The pairing of her writing with the excellent narration of Nicholas Boulton is always beyond pleasing. I think they have to be one of my favorite (out of my top three) audiobook author/narrator teams. This story and the adventure it will take you on is so worth it! And seriously... is there NO accent that Mr. Boulon CAN'T do? The man is truly an artist. Love it.
