Historia
In the first century B.C. at the height of the Roman Republic, two men set their sights on becoming the First Man - the Roman more respected than any other. Marius, a heroic man of strength and means, lacks the noble blood to contend for the First Man, but overcomes his common status when he marries into the patrician house of Caesar. Sulla, a pleasure-seeking aristocrat without money of his own, is transformed by his ambitions into a fierce and daring warrior. Together the two men will shape history as they are thrust into a raging storm....

HEAVILY ABRIDGED
Revisado: 03-04-25
I thought the character development and plot were shallow and blocky. Then it turns out it is a heavily abridged version, although it is not obviously marked as such on the Audible website. I'm displeased with Audible, not the book.

A remarkable thriller
Revisado: 01-09-22
I typically have little time for thrillers. Most are trite, transparent, banal.
"Eye of the Needle" is none of those. Rarely have I been so engaged with a work of popular fiction. The book is, by turns, intriguing, thrilling, exciting, and even touching. Faber, the spy, is no cartoon Nazi, but is instead a complex, contradictory figure. Somewhat embarrassingly, one occasionally finds oneself rooting for him. And the, in the end, rooting for him to die.
Best of all is the unexpected hero. I won't write any spoilers here, but I actually got a lump in my throat when the book came to a close.
The narrator is among the best I have heard. His pacing and tone are ideal.
Call me very pleasantly surprised. No wonder it is a classic of the genre.
